Ohhh yeah cars won't stop for pedestrians...you like that, wait till your kids dies in an accident you wish the people would be more carefull like over here...
You are scared to walk the streets at night in the USA....please feel free to do it in Holland in the cities at night...let's say after 6 pm when the stores close...see if you feel safe...I think Holland has one of the largest pick pocket crimes....what about Theo van Gogh who was killed riding a bike during the day in Amsterdam ....yeah it is really much more safe
Um...she lives in europe. I think I'll take her observations over yours.
Times change. The constitution doesn't say anything about regulating air traffic or radio broadcasts, either. Yet, the FAA and the FCC fulfill some pretty important roles.
Needless to say, this European doesn't recognize the picture that bentlebee is painting - and I'm glad to see US conservatives disagreeing.
liberal and republican speak, if one is in office then the other party says the Constitution cannot be violated as is.
so times might change, but the Constitution stay as is, with or without times changing.

You see why I have him twitted.
It's 16% on everything n Germany. There may be some local taxes in other areas, but not here, straight 16%.
Yeah, you like a nanny state, I don't.
Where don't cars stop for peds? If there's a crosswalk, they stop.
But watch Belgium, just bad all around drivers.
What about the 3 cops that were killed by a wacko right wing zealot in Pittsbugh?
School shootings, people going postal?
The US has more crime with victims than Europe.
Pickpockets, easy fix; don't leave more than you can afford to lose in your pocket.
I guess bb doesn't have much in the way of street smarts.

I've never been to Amsterdam, so I cannot comment on how safe or unsafe it is. I have lived in the UK though and have traveled to France, Spain, Belgium and Germany.
What I will say is that in the case of the UK's cities, there is a major problem with crimes such as muggings, assaults, vandalism, car crime and generally disorderly behavior, mostly fuelled by alcohol and mainly involving large groups of disenfranchised youths, who have been given a free reign to run amok on the streets.
The US has a lot more gun crime though and a far greater number of gangs, guns and organized crime.
I think you are more likely to get shot here, but more likely to be a victim of less serious crime in the UK. In fact, aside from the bad parts of the city I live in (Miami), I feel generally safer here and far less likely to get set upon by a group of drunken, clueless idiots...if that nakes sense?
As for drivers and auto accidents, I felt far safer in the UK than here in South Florida specifically (not the entire United States). British drivers are (on the whole) sensible and fatalities pertaining to cars there are significantly less than here. The British do drive fast though...but sensibly (my opinion). Having driven extensively in many US cities, driving in Miami, Boston, Orlando and Los Angeles is far more hair-raising than anywhere I've driven in the UK or continental Europe (including Belgium).

Yeah, but I think the UK has a set of problems all its own (damn English speaking countries)... on mainland, I feel safe except I don't walk around big cities at night when I don't know my way around.
I travel every weekend (when I don't have a broken foot) and have no problem.
Then again, I'm pretty savvy about travel.

Agreed...the UK's problems are probably very specific to that country, although binge drinking is a problem in other EU nations too (maybe to a lesser extent).
It's always wise to exercise caution in ANY big city and that applies to New York, Los Angeles, London or Paris.
If these right wingers are so bent out of shape of being a vast minority in politics these days, they have no one to blame but themselves. If not the crappy performances of Bush, Palin, etc democrats would've won a fraction of the elections they've won the last few years. If they really have a bone to pick, tell them to take a look in the mirror
Why Don't conservatives move to Indonesia if they want free market capitalism with no government intervention in the economy? Last Novemeber the voters 86ed the Repulbicans because the majority of us want more government control/regulation of the economy.
