So I am a conservative and do not agree with some of their positions. I am very much a small government supporter. The two areas I disagree with the majority of conservatives:

Gay marriage. Let them do as they please. Even if you feel gay marriage is "immoral" you cannot legislate morality. Personally, I do not agree with gay marriage but also feel that not only is it none of my business, its none of government's business. If other people agree with it, leave them alone and let them do as they wish.

Marijuana. Legalize it. Like yesterday. I cannot understand for a second how anyone who is in favor of small government could support the government's band on a naturally growing flower that causes people to get the giggles and munchies. Alcohol is so much more of a detrimental drug. You here of stories CONSTANTLY of people killed by drunk drivers, people comitting violent acts in a drunken rage, alcoholic households where the parents are heavily abusive towards children or spouses, and yet marijuana is illegal. When was the last time a stoner went on a violent rampage? Never. Its definitely no more dangerous than alcohol for society, and very arguable far less dangerous.

While I am sure that there are other subjects that I would disagree with conservatives on to some extent, these are 2 that I'm just flat out on the opposite side of the coin on it seems.

So what about you? This isn't about bashing anyone else's views in the thread, only stating and discussing where you tend to hold an opposite view of those you typically agree with.

Easy - I'm a Republican and:

1) I'm against the Patriot Act

2) I'm against the torture

3) I'm against the death penalty (though I'd be OK with it the risk of innocent people being convicted was much lower and it was less expensive)

4) I feel gay couples should at least be allowed civil unions and not adamantly opposed to them being allowed to marry

Good stuff. I need to add Anti-Patriot Act to my list as well.

I'm about as liberal as they come. But I have mixed feelings about abortion. I really hate the extreme rhetoric that comes from both sides and would prefer for their to be some third way. I just can't figure out what that would be.

It does bother me the way my fellow liberals make abortion out to be "no big deal". Believe me, I had a friend who had an abortion and she told me afterwards that if she knew what it was going to be like, she would have never gone through with it.

Anyway, I don't have anything particularly brilliant to say here expect that I think both sides try to oversimplify a really difficult and challenging issue.

I don't know if there is any such thing as a Conservative POV or a Liberal POV. I think there is not absolute in either party. That being said Gay Marriage is about it for me because I do not think what the US did was torture, I think the Patriot Act was supported by both sides and I feel the death penalty is appropriate in some instances. I just saw abortion and I had to add that to my list also, I do not think it should be illegal just better regulated.

That is easy. I am considered somewhat liberal among other things.

1. I support the fair tax.

2. I support free trade

3. I against most restrictions on tobacco, i.e. smoking bans, banning certain types of cigarettes/cigars.

4. I am for drastic welfare reform.

5. I oppose most stimulus spending and bailouts.

As a conservative, I tend to waver when it comes to fiscal issues. I don't want our government to turn socialist but I do believe in safety nets and do not think that everyone who is on welfare or using food stamps are taking advantage of the system. I do, however, agree with many conservatives in the sense that government is not always the most efficient with our tax dollars and would like to see less money funding pork and more money actually helping those in need.

Honestly, I don't always know where I stand politically....but I do tend to agree more with liberals or socialists, but this is where I'd generally disagree with them:

- I am actually for smaller, but more effective government at all levels (federal, state, local)
- I am against illegal immigration and against any form of amnesty for illegal immigrants
- I seldom sympathize with criminal behavior and believe in tough sentences (not sure about the death penalty though)
- I am 100% against all of the "bailouts" carried out by the current, and previous administration
- I didn't like George Bush as President myself, but I don't blame him for everything that went wrong in this country

I should add - I'm also pro-environmental initiatives (but I don't particularly care for Cap & Trade the way it was done). Regardless of whether climate change is real or not, pollution is - not to mention that reliance on foreign oil is a very dangerous policy and that all the oil will be gone in 50-100 years anyway.

So, yes, I have a few views that are pretty liberal.

That said, I'm staunchly conservative on issues such as illegal immigration (get the ones who are here sent home ASAP, keep new ones from coming in), pro-gun rights, pro-3 strikes laws, pro-privatizing welfare as much as realistically possible and definitely pro-welfare-to-work type programs, pro-free trade, pro-small, EFFICIENT government, anti-bailouts, etc.
