WASHINGTON — The White House is being forced to acknowledge the wide gap between its once-upbeat predictions about the economy and today's bleak landscape.
The administration's annual midsummer budget update is sure to show higher deficits and unemployment and slower growth than projected in President Barack Obama's budget in February and update in May, and that could complicate his efforts to get his signature health care and global-warming proposals through Congress.
The release of the update — usually scheduled for mid-July — has been put off until the middle of next month, giving rise to speculation the White House is delaying the bad news at least until Congress leaves town on its August 7 summer recess.
The administration is pressing for votes before then on its $1 trillion health care initiative, which lawmakers are arguing over how to finance.
Just a couple of questions (even though I already know the answers); Is this the "new" kind of politics you were hoping for?
Is the this the "change" you were hoping for?
Instead of laying it all out on the table (like he said he would) in a transparent (remember that promise?) for the public to digest, no matter how terrible the information, he is trying to hide what surely must be catastrophic numbers that show everything he has done has made the recession worse.
Quote:
The administration has projected that the annual deficit for the current budget year will hit $1.84 trillion, four times the size of last year's deficit of $455 billion. Private forecasters suggest that shortfall may top $2 trillion.
He wants to keep his approval rating at or above 50%. Which is where it is exactly. 50% Rasmussen Poll, 7/20/09
By delaying the inevitable he will only hurt himself in the long run. I am starting to question whether this man carea about this Nation one bit. After his Glorius campaign of hope he has done nothing but retain the typical behaviors of every politician in the country.
Do not worry Sanrene, You will not have any bleeding hearts in on this thread. And if they do show up they will be digging their own grave.

That too.
Now we can understand why he is in such a rush to have a HC bill before the recess - he wants a vote before what is left of his support erodes even further.

I watched that interview of Peter Orszag yesterday and was amazed at the way he curled is lips when talking down to Wallace. When he was just talking without his condescending tone and words he looked completely different than when he was. I thought he was pretty obvious by the way he talked.
A little transparency would help but sometimes it hurts your agenda so if you are the President of the US you may well have to hide the truth as long as possible.
