This really has nothing to do with "the left" or the value of our president. It is about factual evidence. Let's stay on topic.
I'm struggling to recall a president who has not protected his records, but Obama did produce a raised-seal birth certificate and had his birth announced so there's no debate left on that issue.
He also went to Columbia and Occidental, but since you have not seen those records should we now doubt that he went there?

The records have been public for a year. The lunatic fringe insists they're fake. The lunatic fringe insists that Obama's parents faked that 1961 newspaper birth announcement. They insist that the state of Hawaii is faking a birth certificate for him. They insist that "sources" claim all legitimate records involving Obama have been faked by a worldwide supersecret consrtium of government and academia.

Do you guys who were around the forum during the campaign remember how we were promised every day that "tomorrow at 9:30 AM there will be a major breaking news event that will turn the election upside down and spell the end for Obama?" Well, that "major news event" never happened so now they have just moved on to this. Let's face it. If they had been PRESENT at the birth in Hawaii they still wouldn't believe it because they just can not, will not, will never accept the fact that THEIR PRESIDENT is a black man with the name Barack Hussein Obam. They can twist it and turn it every way they want but everyone KNOWS that is the truth.

We know LOTS about every previous President and candidates (remember the flap when it was revealed that Bush had better grades than Gore and Kerry both?) - so why have ALL of Obama's student records, scholarship applications, foreign adoption papers, etc. been sealed and/or confiscated?
I think what distinguishes Obama from the others you mentioned are his curious antecedents. And that's what keeps this issue alive. For most presidents and presidential candidates it's an easy matter to investigate their birthplace and speak to family members and friends, teachers etc. It's not that easy for Obama. His parents are dead. His relatives are either Kenyan or Indonesian. In other words his childhood is shrouded, not as clear as others.
I don't think that's all of it. George Romney (father of Mitt) was born in Mexico to US born parents whose own parents fled the US to practice polygamy. Geo Romney ran for pres in 1968, and while this information was public knowledge then, no one seemed to care. There are three presidents (at least) who had parents who were not US citizens. No one seemed to care about that either. What's the difference? Obama is black.
BTW, Obama is not realted to anyone in Indonesia. Lolo Soetoro was his step-father.
