Almost every state in the United States has a disorderly conduct law that makes it a crime to be drunk in public, to "disturb the peace", or to loiter in certain areas. Many types of unruly conduct may fit the definition of disorderly conduct, as such statutes are often used as "catch-all" crimes. Police may use a disorderly conduct charge to keep the peace when people are behaving in a disruptive manner to themselves or others, but present no serious public danger. Disorderly conduct is typically classified as a misdemeanor
And in most states, if not all, a cop may make an arrest for a misdemeanor committed in his presence.
By using the adverb "stupidly", the Pres was all of sudden on the same side as Reverend Al. Not a good place to be. He saw his second term sprouting wings and flying away and now must backtrack a bit.
Even my 5 yr old knows that "stupid" or "stupidly" is not a word we use to describe people. I agree that this question was hand-picked, as I believe most are, to stir the blood and get publicity away from the real issues facing us, especially with this new trillion $ heathcare bill. He gave more details about Gates than the real costs to of his healthcare proposal which may bankrupt an already frail economy.

Gee...maybe from the claims of racism by a racist old man with pull?
Answer mine now. Why are a lot of charges dropped when the offense actually occured?
Technicalities get charges dropped all the time.
I doubt calling the cop a racist got his charges dropped. It's more likely the chief looked at the facts and determined the officer should never have placed Gates under arrest.

Or the chief was pressured by the mayor or the governor (Hell, or the President) or the DA didn't want to file the charges or any number of other reasons, likely political, to try to let this all flow by; none of which have anything to do with who was or wasn't at fault.
