I didn't say I was ready to take on the Mongol hordes just yet. I have been training somewhat less than a year and started at 50 years old. I don't see anyone my age in the gym anywhere near my progress. Of course the high school seniors are benching double 45lb plates on each side but many of them aren't. That is a whole other thread. I imagine in another year I'll be there and in 5 years... who knows. Still, I agree with you. I said as much in this very forum several months ago. "If the grid really goes down, I don't want to live if I have to hole up and shoot every living thing that crosses my tripwire.
The muscles are for a little extra edge in a society that will be frayed but not imploded... yet. I am not as hopeful (or doubtful) as you that nothing serious is on the horizon. The signs are all there and you sound as if you at least suspect this, otherwise, why the arsenal? Hmmm...
