I think that it has something to do with putting private companies in a position where they just can't compete. Does that not lead to a single payer system? What does that leave control of health care in?
Also, Obama is NOT pushing for a public option that hard.
Reason is simple: Obama is a conservative; a Corporatist who ran as a Progressive.

In spite of the fact that it was so effective that the corporate media had to manufacture another "story" for cover, it still talked of money (deficits), not people, or a "Right" to Healthcare that got him elected.
That was all jive for the electorate.

Because he truely believes that the government is the answer to everyones lives..(socialism) He is taking over...if you like that then you are happy..if you believe in what has made America great since day one..you will hate it...if you hate America..you will love Obama..if you love America..after you see what we look like by the time he is finshed with us..you will hate him...(oh and Congress too!!!) Obama thinks that we as a nation need to atone for the sins of our past..it is all about evening the score..if you don't beleive that..then you are one of those gullible people that voted for him and still don't get it...
because he KNOWS that the only way to successfully control health care costs while still providing care to all, is to find a way to "ration" health care that is independent of individual wealth, and free of health care profit motive! Private companies are fine, if they choose to make their main objective good care, rather than huge salaries for execs! If not, they will be out of business!
