What are you talking about, exactly? I strongly believe in individual freedoms. My basic philosophy is this: If you're not hurting anybody, you should be allowed to do it. Unfortunately, many aren't comfortable with that level of freedom for individuals.

There is just as much garbage spewed from the left. (religious nuts, Bible thumpers, neocons, war mongers, etc, etc, etc)

We believe that those that support abortions are baby killers, because we believe it's a child inside a woman, and not just tissue. We believe that the left is moving towards socialism and eventually to fascism, because we see the leftist government taking more and more every day.

Some of that isn't name calling. It's just calling it like we see it.

Another issue is abortion. I think that reasonable people could find a compromise. An example: Ban abortions after the second trimester, and limit them after the first trimester. Instead, it's an all-or-nothing game.

Compromise, in my opinion, is giving in... it's selling out your beliefs.
So you totally disregard opinions that are different from yours. It's your way or the highway, essentially.

Sounds great in theory, but the human race simply isn't ready for true libertarianism just yet (if it were, I'd be a libertarian myself).

This PC nonsense can only be carried so far, and then it becomes obvious BS. When THAT happens, logical, civilized discussion goes by the wayside, and the illogical 'screaming' begins.....and a large part pf that breakdown of common sense is a tendency to 'demonize' one's opponents.
I dunno, on this board the screaming and name-calling seem to start pretty much right away.

Of course we all disagree in issues. Great! It'd be creepy is everyone got along all the time. But... Why can't it be, "I don't think the Bush administration was honest with the American people." Why does it have to be, "Dick Cheney is pure evil." Or if you prefer, "I really hate President Obama's health care plan." Why does it have to be, "Barry Hussein hates America and wants to kill us all when we get sick."

I do realize that it's fun to sort of go off the deep end every once in a while. But one ought to at least realize when they're doing it.

Does it not matter to you that most Americans don't want abortion to be totally illegal?

Does it not matter to you that "the left" that you demonize has been fairly elected by the voters of this country?

What types of activities do you want to restrict, even if you know those activities aren't hurting anyone?

A good journalist is trained like a shark is set up to detect blood in the water. The minute a lie is being floated a good journalist detects the bull**** and then goes in for the kill, asking even more and more unrelenting questions while trapping the liar and exposing the truth. I think this is what is at work with Lou Dobbs.

Is Lou Dobbs a demonizer or a journalist? He is a journalist.

There are a lot of other demonizing tactics and language used by Karl Rove and the right the past decade or so. Recently, Glenn Beck, who shouldn't be allowed near a microphone, began calling our President a racist. Other rightwing mouthpieces have called anyone who disagrees with their agenda all sorts of names, like the ones above, etc.

I'm all for getting over the divisiveness, but the GOP needs to make amends and start the ball rolling. Perhaps Senator Graham's decent words for Sonja Sotomajor are a start, and the work this week by Senator Grassley and a few other GOP'ers to get a workable healthcare plan in place may be a further step towards better relations between the left and right. Truth is, MOST of us live towards the center of the spectrum, not out on the fringes.
You are all for getting over divisivness? Yet the rest of the crap you just spewed was nothing but a load of divisive drivel....

United we stand but divided we fall.

The sides today are polarized on either extreme. It's evident in our government by their words and actions, even by our own President. It seems to be getting worse though and not better. The extremism portrayed by both parties in government is scary. There doesn't seem to be debate anymore to compromise..it's either "promise them pork" to buy their vote or let them dissent and call them names.

Obama was supposed to be the uniter, not the divider.
