Why would you deny him the opportunity to express himself, describe his point of view and talk about his actions, and listen to the other two do the same? Why would you deny them the chance to see common ground, admit mistakes, and laugh and shake hands? Why keep people antagonistic?

The professor will never ever admit that his attitude and non-compliance to police requests led to his arrest. Never.

This could be, should be, an important symbolic moment - peace and at least amiability demonstrated thanks to calm, honest communication. If it works, good, if not, oh well, you hatemongers win.
I'm anxious to see if Obama's apology tour ended in Russia. It would actually make me happy to hear that he no longer feels the need to apologize (although this is the one situation in which he actually SHOULD apologize).
