That was great..Thanks for posting it. The "one nig*a syndrome" he was probably referring to is similar to the "token" syndrome. You let one in and you're good. Also, those institutions Gates was referring to were both racist and sexist prior to the late 60's. I enjoyed that commentary. Post more if you have it.
"Newt Gingrich can come in, that Contract for America is serious. You know what those guys have said? 'Somehow, while we were asleep, all you white women and all you black people got into the middle class.'
'We are not sure how it happened. But the first thing we are going to do is we are going to shake the tree and any of y'all who can't hold on, you're all going back."
- Henry Gates
What falls out when you shake the tree wasn't supposed to be there.

I guess I did not find this video to be so shocking, nor do I really see the point of this thread.
In this video, Skip Gates (along with Cornel West) were speaking to an audience about a book that they co-authored. Both Gates and West are very knowledgeable and very eloquent writers/ speakers on race issues. I would suggest that instead of looking at snippets of a video clip, it may be more instructive to simply read their book entitled: The future of the race. It would give you a better sense of where Gates is coming from. Plus, reading is such a powerful learning tool.

Elitist!
