Is this what the Obama supporters we talking about when he said "Hope and Change"?

Why are we there? Can you really tell me it is worth it to chase a madman around the world?

UN: Civilian deaths up 24 percent in Afghanistan

GENEVA – The United Nations said Friday the number of civilians killed in conflict in Afghanistan has jumped 24 percent so far this year, with bombings by insurgent and airstrikes by international forces the biggest single killers.

In a grim assessment of the first half of 2009, the U.N. assistance mission in Afghanistan said the Taliban and other anti-government militants have become more deadly by shifting from ambush attacks to suicide bombings, roadside explosives and targeted assassinations.

It is pathetic that Americans have all but forgotten about these battles because our pockets are a bit lighter. We Americans can be so myopic and selfish sometimes. It is time to end these wars and bring home the troops from around the world. That will bring prosperity to all.

Yes. Let's just quit and leave the Taliban and al Queda right where they were on Sept. 11, 2001. That oughta solve the problem.

At least we can be "prosperous" until they come back and kill a few thousand more of us.

Do you wonder why there is an Al Queda in the first place?

July was already the bloodiest month for U.S. forces in the eight-year Afghan war with 42 American soldiers dead.

Actually, Obama campaigned relentlessly on the platform that he would end combat operations in Iraq and ramp them up in Afghanistan in order to pursue Al Qaeda.

I think his opponents assumed he was a dove based on propaganda and not really paying close attention, but he laid out a pretty intensive military strategy and now he's following through.

So, yes, redeploying troops to more effectively fight the war on terror is the hope and change for which we voted.

The anti-war left and right (yes, PLENTY of them exist) was hoodwinked and will be staying home in '12, guaranteed.

How were they hoodwinked when Obama CLEARLY laid out his plan for Afghanistan? That's being stupidwinked. I think the Obama can stand to lose all 3 of the anti-war right folks and I doubt if anybody on the left will sit home and risk another wingnut being elected. That's a pipedream.

They had higher hopes, MUCH higher hopes on bringing the troops home tomorrow (as Obama clearly said in his campaign speeches).

The anti-war crowd aren't going to be playing "Prisoner's Dilemma" in their minds come Nov '10 and Nov '12. It's much easier to stay at home or snog your girlfriend on election day when you don't feel quite so energized about your candidate.
