Why can't Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists be the Government? (lawyers, dictators, politicians)

I don't see the relevance of politicians. They are not qualified problem solvers and they do not have sufficient knowledge. Shouldn't the government consist of the best engineers, technicians, and scientists?
Engineers and technicians are qualified critical thinkers and problem solvers. They made our life easier with their knowledge and applications. They build bridges, stadiums, machines, computers, TVs etc. Everything we take for granted can be credited to some of the brightest and most influential engineers and technicians. They made our life easy, they build assembly machines that meet the needs for such an ever growing human population. They have designed heaters and air-conditioners that we need. They have designed stoves and microwaves..etc.
Scientists, like engineers and technicians, have impacted on everything we take for granted too. We get our knowledge of the natural phenomena from intense research of some of the greatest and most devoted scientists in the world. This knowledge is the very reason why we have the technology that we have today.
Simply put, what did politicians ever do? Human beings make the same mistakes over and over again. History keeps repeating in different forms, warfare after warfare. That shows that politics is b******* for it has done nothing but create human unsatisfaction and human suffering, while at the same time, engineers, technicians, and scientists have truely benefited society.

Most are socially awkward or inept and thus unelectable.
I'd like to see more business minded/entrepreneurs in elected office.
Can't be any worse off than we are now, with all bottom dwelling lawyers running roughshod over the Constitution.

I am a doctoral level physicist and a collegue of mine who supervised my thesis work once remarked that science is not a democracy. Scientists would give you a system once advocated by Plato in which the ideal was rule by a philosopher king. Now the flaw in this arguement is making sure you get the right kind of fellow in charge because such a system is a dictatorship. This can be illustrated with the USSR where with the exception of Mikhail Gorbachev (who was a lawyer) all of the Soviet leaders since Stalin were trained as young men to be engineers. For example, Nikita Khruschev was a civil engineer and was in charge of building the Moscow subways. Leonid Brezhnev and Constantine Chernyenko were metalurgical engineers and built steel mills. Another engineer was Yuri Andropov. Lenin studied mathematics as a student. All of these men were belivers in the power of technology and that a small group of experts could solve the problems in running a complex nation that occupies 10% of the world. It didn't work so well.

Well I'd say that this answers the OP's question quite sufficiently!
