"A campaign on conservative talk radio, fueled by President Obama's calls to control exorbitant medical bills, has sparked fear among senior citizens that the health-care bill moving through Congress will lead to end-of-life "rationing" and even "euthanasia."

"...on right-leaning radio programs, religious e-mail lists and Internet blogs, the proposal has been described as "guiding you in how to die," "an ORDER from the Government to end your life," promoting "death care" and, in the words of antiabortion leader Randall Terry, an attempt to "kill Granny."

I would actually call this a campaign by the far left to tone down what Obama himself said on national t v in a town hall meeting. That some seniors would be better off taking pain meds than having other forms of treatment. Sure, that's okay, unless it's a member of your own family. And with the other proposals in the bill, it sounds so bad of course the far left are going to blame to republicans for making people aware of what's in the bill. We do have a right to know and interpret it ourselves. We can't help it if the thing is so horrendous it defies logic.

Hold it, hold it. You're saying that the talk about "killing Granny" on conservative talk shows and websites is actually a campaign by the left? How is the left controlling what conservatives are saying on their blogs and radio shows?

He is his own worst enemy. When he has been asked specifics about will care for the sick and elderly be rationed, will the government decide whether an elderly person will get medical treatment if the have multiple serious medical problems he did his usual political avoidance speech. That has people alarmed, thus the crack was big enough to get the fear going. Whether he will ration that care of not he should have just lied like he normally does. Doing what he did just opened the door for many. He is just not that sharp without prepared speeches.

There is a definite strategy by the far left and the far right to demonize the people they want to punish, control. I am sure that the employees in the insurance, banking, auto, mortgage, etc. industries can attest to that. Unfortunately the average voter is too blind to see the obvious and these types of strategies work with them. Both parties are great at it when they get their chance. It works for the most part for a season and then the people wake up and the backlash is seen. It will continue to happen over and over, as long as we have sheep and a corrupt 2 party system. I guess that means forever.

What is actually "mind boggling" is that YOU are playing the race card. It's the same tired canard...if I disagree with this administration obviously I'm a racist.

From MSNBC: "House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and Republican Policy Committee Chairman Thaddeus McCotter (Mich.) said they object to the idea because it "may start us down a treacherous path toward government-encouraged euthanasia."

The road to hell is generally paves with good intentions, most of them from Democratic administrations. The "Kill Granny" campaign needs to occur, not ignored or derided as racist, because once laws like this are on the books, government-encouraged/mandated euthanasia is where it will inevitably lead.

Baby boomers wake up! The largest generation ever is slowly headed for the Exit sign. Imagine waking up at the age of 70 to a splitting headache, and a week or so later being told you have a brain tumor. It's operable, but instead of a doctor, an end-of-life counselor shows up in your room, explaing the decision has been made that it's just simply not cost-effective to attempt to extend your life another 10 years. Instead, they have wonderful drugs to make your remaining days bearable.

If the government can justify taking your property away, they will easily be able to justify taking your life away. It will "distateful", like abortion, but legal.

Government healthcare means limited and rationed healthcare, and the younger will always win out over the older.

This administration wants to take over another industry and have the power to dictate every aspect of your life. Only a fool would call such discussions of such import racist.

What a BS post - full of RW scare talk and not a single FACT to support any assertion.

I read the text of the bill. There is NOTHING in it about euthanasia for seniors. There are provisions for providing free counseling for seniors to educate them on end of life decisions - such as a Living Will, Health Care Surrogate, etc. - decisions that informed, educated seniors already take the time to investigate.
