Cleaning toilets is too good of a job for Beck!

Beck has a right to express his views, I agree. Beck is also a high profile media figure with certain responsibilities. When one takes fact and manipulates it in order to slander an entity or mislead public opinion with malicious intent, one shouldn't be in journalism. There is such a thing as journalistic integrity. Unfortunately, most mainstream journalists have abandoned integrity for higher ratings, and Beck is one of these clowns.

No, he shouldn't be in jail. And yes, the First Amendment protects free speech (although that's not without limits ... the old shouting-"fire"-in-a-crowded-theater thing).

The problem is that Beck isn't a journalist - he's an entertainer and a commentator. He has no formal training or background in journalism, and I would not hold him to the same standards as I would a true journalist.

Unfortunately, some people don't know the difference between journalist and commentator, and they take what he says as gospel, not understanding that what he says is merely his own (sometimes twisted and often factually incorrect) opinion.

I do not have comments specific to the Beck clip but there are some things that disturb me about this clunker bill. I can understand someone whom was already in the market for a new vehicle taking part in the deal but what about people whom were not thinking of buying a new car? How many people taking part in this are already in a bad financial situation or close to one? Are people realizing that even though they are getting a $4,500 break on a new car that they will still have to make a monthly car payment? They will also have to pay full coverage on car insurance so their car insurance bill will be rising as well. Will they keep statistics on how many people doing this will have the new car they purchased repossessed by the time the loan is paid off? I doubt it.

I really hope that people are taking a good look at their finances before jumping into a new car just because of the "good deal" they are hearing about. As for those saying how the president cares about the everyday Main Street American; is this really helping the people buying the cars or the companies selling them? I see it helping the auto companies more than the consumer.

Cash for clunkers is just a backdoor way of lining the pockets of the auto exec's. By the end of the year you can bet the auto exec's will be patting themselves on their backs and passing out the million dollar bonus.

Great post. I voted for Obama, but that is also my take on the program.

I didn't even watch that trash Beck vomited out of his pie hole. The President is going to make some decisions that people dont agree with. That doesn't mean the whole freakin universe is going to collapse on itself like these fearmongers are predicting.

If that was the case under 8 years of Dubya the world should have imploded into a dust ball by now.

A 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup with a 5.2L V8 engine, a combined 14 MPG, a rusting body, a worn out front end suspension, dead air conditioning, a severely cracked windshield, a driver's side window that clunks when it rolls up and down, a bent driver's seat, various loud rattles coming from behind the dashboard, various louder rattles coming from somewhere under the truck and a 50/50 chance of the vehicle not starting every time I turned the key in the ignition.......

$4,500 of my tax money sent back to me by the federal government.

A 2010 Ford Fusion SE with a 2.5L I4 engine, a combined 25 MPG, reliability ratings at the top of the charts (per Consumer Reports), a 3 year manufacturer's warranty on everything, with document fees, delivery charge, sales tax, a well-negotiated price, less manufacturer's rebates and the CARS money.....

$16,500 out the door.

Watching neo-cons try to explain how cutting taxes for the wealthy is a good thing, but how someone like me getting a very small portion of my taxes back to purchase a new vehicle is a bad thing.....

Priceless.

That seems to be exactly the point of this whole thing. Good buy!

I think that if they would have narrowed down the criteria, folks like you would still get this deal and it would have weeded out some of the less than wise transactions, and stretched the money/time a bit.
