Everyday on this board people complain about being told what to do.
Dont control my sex life, my income, my kids, etc etc etc.
Yet we run to government to "fix it all" which gives them the power to control more of your lives. I dont care of your voted for McCain or Obama or anyone else. What I do know is you dont have to support anyone who tells you how to live your life and most of all you dont have to support someone who wants to take from you and gives it to someone else.
Where do we draw the line in the sand as a individual and say stop controling my life. I dont care who you are the right over someones happiness and or income or sex life is not the role of government.
Why would you elect and or pay via taxes for you to enforce restrictions on other people. Then we go around taking the money of Americans and giving it to other nations and police the world where is that in the constitution and since when did Americans vote on this. People it seems just have a hard time with freedom they want freedom for themselves but if anyone else has a different idea or they see them as greedy or immoral all the sudden you elect government GODs.
Elected governments are intended to protect individual rights and you cant do that by taking another individuals rights away in the process.
Those rights are in the constitution learn them and when government does something not in the constitution is your right to question it and most of all dont empower the government to continue it.

Amen. Good post.

It's sad, but all the support for what's going on is a referendum against Bush, more than believing in what the B.O. administration is trying to do.

If Bush were to say that the government was going to step in and take over the health care industry, the left would be crying foul.

This is pathetic politics. There is nothing good that can come from these proposed bills and the hemorrhaging of money that's going on, but as long at ol' Barry is at the helm, they'll follow him off the cliff just because he's not Bush.

I have not noticed the government telling me what to do. My employer and my wife on the other hand.

Did you ever stop to think, your employer and your wife are telling you what to do, because the gubmint is telling them what to do, and you just arent paying attention?

It's a metaphorical statement, but think about it, it may just dawn upon you.

Really Greg its nice you dont have to pay the IRS, pay into SS and all the other little taxes they take. Hmmm you must love that tax bracket math. (Yes I know you want a progress tax system)
Seems to me everytime I turn on the radio and TV the government is censoring news, music and entertainment.
You choose your wife and your employer Greg nobody told you anything there. You can work for someone else Greg and the best part is you can work for yourself. It seems to me you have more freedom there as telling the IRS you will give them 1,000 dollars less this year.
If your wife tells you what to do Greg that is a person individual issue I would took and see if you can find your balls. Have your tried looking in your wives pockets? Dont worry thou Greg in the eyes of the government you get a benefit from being married in the tax code so it appears government might be helping you at the expenise of the single person. If you have any kids expect another deduction just for having sex.
Ahhhhh... Greg do all socialists live in a dream world and or expect us all to join you in a world where you have a hard time making decisions for yourself and would just rather the government do it for you.

It has nothing to do with partisanship, both parties are guilty of it.

It seems like everything bad that happens some one shouts "Why isn't the government doing something about this?". Personal responsibility seems to have gone by the wayside for so many things it's getting sad, it's never anyone's fault it seems anymore. It's a gross generalization I know, but seeing it so much is getting pathetic.

Eat too much fatty foods? Blame the government.
Don't study hard in school or slack too much at work? Blame the government (and business).
Do drugs? Always the governments fault.
Texting on a cell phone and ram some one in your car? Always the governments fault.
Commit crimes? Governments fault of course.

Without personal responsibility and integrity we all suffer. Forcing people to do what they need to do because they won't is not the government's job...and expecting them to do it just further erodes those basic values we must have.

Exellent post.

When considering any government solution to a problem I ask myself 'does this solution cross the State line?' If it does then I oppose it. The State line is the point at which the government solution invades the individual's sphere of personal liberty. A good example is the upcoming census. There is no need for the detailed information required on the census. Consequently I intend to provide only the number of persons in my household, nothing else. If Uncle Sam has a problem with that then too freaking bad.

"I'm from the government and I'm here to help" may give liberals a tingle up their thigh but then self reliance was never a character trait of liberals.
