The claim that the House health care bill pushes suicide is nonsense.

On former Sen. Fred Thompson’s radio show, former lieutenant governor of New York Betsy McCaughey said that the House’s proposed health care bill contained a provision that would institute mandatory counseling sessions telling seniors how "to do what’s in society’s best interest … and cut your life short." House Minority Leader John Boehner made a slightly more measured statement, warning that the same provision "may start us down a treacherous path toward government-encouraged euthanasia if enacted into law."

I would love to know how factcheck.org knows any of this since the bill has yet to be published for everyone to see. I have been searching and can not find it anywhere.

Anyone know where this 1000 page bill is I have a few open days to do some reading.

When you are talking about billions of dollars, they will try anything to turn public opinion against what benefits society, andmaybe their best card is using what works best: Fearmongering.

Worked so well with Iraq they can now try it on the elderly. I doubt many believe that nonsense, but some will

(5) establish a school-based health care program; and
(6) establish a national medical device registry.
I see a massive, new, bureaucratic nightmare.

Ok first thank you for the link. I began reading and I can see why the Senators don't want to read it.

Anyway I got to this section and concern stared.

Quote:
(c) Limitation on Individual Health Insurance Coverage-CommentsClose CommentsPermalink

8
(1) IN GENERAL- Individual health insurance coverage that is not grandfathered health insurance coverage under subsection (a) may only be offered on or after the first day of Y1 as an Exchange-participating health benefits plan.CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
(2) SEPARATE, EXCEPTED COVERAGE PERMITTED- Excepted benefits (as defined in section 2791(c) of the Public Health Service Act) are not included within the definition of health insurance coverage. Nothing in paragraph (1) shall prevent the offering, other than through the Health Insurance Exchange, of excepted benefits so long as it is offered and priced separately from health insurance coverage.
From what I gather this means that you will no longer be able to buy the health coverage you want from the insurer you want. You will have to chose an insurer that is under this Health Insurance Exchange which is a group of insures run by the government and you can not pay for additional coverage everyone will have the same exact coverage but will pay different prices for it.

I also noticed on the first page of this sight that only 12% of people reading this bill were for it.

Love The Consumerists take on it.

"Yesterday, Consumer Reports noted that an anti-health reform politician is trying to convince senior citizens that they'll be required to take lessons in euthanasia if any reform is passed. Regardless of what side you come down on with health care reform, this is flat out wrong. We care about this lie, which is still bouncing around the media, because it might interfere with the very real and useful tasks of setting up living wills and determining health care proxies—things that matter to both the elderly and the terminally ill."
