well as a hispanic this is a very proud moment and to those who are worried about her "wise Latina" comment, wouldn't you want somebody on the Supreme Court who "wise" but just happened to be Latina? She is a accomplished Justice and has earned her way to where she is but the right wing turned this into a race issue slamming her because she is proud of her ethnicity which many Americans do as well.
Would anybody have made a stink if a nominee said well "I'm a wise Irish man? " instead? I doubt it.
The point is . . . a Supreme Court Justice is supposed to be solely focused on the law and the Constitution of the USA. He or she is not to be swayed or influenced by either his/her own ethnicity or that of someone else.
That was my point.
I don't care what race, religion, etc. any of the justices might be.
I do care how they interpret the Constitution.
That's all.
And may I add . . . do any of you all know your history? Do you have any idea who Thurgood Marshall, one of the most outstanding Justices, was?
The SCOTUS has not been exclusively a white male institution, for heaven's sake.
Are you proud as an individual or proud as a "hispanic"? Because it's foolish to have pride in your ethnicity. An ethnicity cannot become a Supreme Court Justice, an individual does.
It's not a "race" issue because she's not a "race" she's an individual who made a "racist" remark.
As I said earlier taking pride in your "ethnicity", which is something that you had absolutely nothing to do with accomplishing, is foolish.
You can be proud to be an American, because that is your nationality, and you have the choice to live in the U.S.A. or another nation to voice having that kind of pride. If you move to Canada, you can be a proud Canadian. Having pride in your ethnicity is foolish. Have pride that she accomplished a goal, that she overcame obstacles and succeeded. But pride in her being an "hispanic" is just as ridiculous as having pride in Obama being "black".
It's time to stop dividing each other up by ethnicity and "race", and start uniting as Americans.
I am proud as a hispanic but why is it issue to white people when we remark on it? People throughout American history have always celebrated their ethnicity but now it is foolish? Even though I'm not Irish I celebrate St. Patrick's Day & Cinco de Mayo and am not Mexican either.
By the way I know many blacks who were very proud of Obama's election.
There is a difference between being "proud" and trying to divide Americans which was not the intent of my comment.

Probably does not bestow RINO status. There was no way any Republican effort was going to derail the Sotomayor confirmation and none of the above can be reasonably labeled as misogynistic and/or anti-latino(a) in the wake of the confirmation. Spineless, un-cohesive and self-serving, but perhaps forward thinking.

I don't know. There was a lot of screaming about Lindsey Graham being a RINO after he said he would support her a week or two ago.
We have a racist in the white house, racist in the democrat congress and now a racist on the supreme court.
Does this mean you're leaving the country? If not, what will it take?
