refuse to pay for medical costs incurred by a policy-holder if he/she was riding a motorcycle without a helmet?

Instead of raising costs across the board because of one person's stupid mistake, should the insurance company make that policy-holder pay the full medical cost?

Sure, why not.

And likewise they should not pay if someone smokes, drinks, eats poorly, doesn't exercise enough, and was born to parents who had genetic problems.

Frankly if it's legal to ride without a helmet that's that.

Even if they were wearing a helmet, insurance companies would find a way not to pay.

I voted for Not sure because I am sorta right in the middle. I think that if you buy medical insurance you it should pay no matter what or how you get hurt but I also think riding without a helmet is irresponsible. So really torn on it. Sorry I could not be more direct.

Depends. If they cover people that do things like mountain climbing, bungee jumping and sky diving then they should cover them.

If riding without a helmet is legal, yes they should.

I like the principle and I think that there are scores upon scores of cases in ICU's and trauma centers across the nation that could be righteously denied coverage for making unfathomably bad decisions and willfully exposing themselves to completely unacceptable danger, but that is a very slippery slope.

If that's what it says in the contract.

From some of the responses many of you folks don't seem to understand the theory behind insurance-ie sharing the risk across a large group.
