U.S. Payroll Losses Slow, Unemployment Rate Declines
Aug. 7 (Bloomberg) -- The pace of U.S. job losses slowed more than forecast last month and the unemployment rate dropped for the first time since April 2008, the clearest signs yet that the worst recession since the Great Depression is easing.
Sincerely hope you are correct, and the numbers wont be "revised" negatively again. Which seems to be a favorite tactic of the gubmint number doctors these days........
The civilian labor force participation rate declined by 0.2 percentage point in July to 65.5 percent.
This is the number for those who have "dropped out" and no longer counted in unemployment number. But, they don't have jobs. So, while the number "counted" is down, the number "actual" is still going up.
This number is very relevant to consumer spending and GDP.
On an unadjusted basis there was no change in unemployment rate in U-3 and U-6. U-5 slightly worse. This means that the number of those working part-time but want full-time employment is increasing.

don't rain on their parade. over 500,000 people lost their jobs this week, EVEN WITH THE STIMULUS, so i don't see how anyone could see good news on the job front sector.
I always prefer to read the actual information, as opposed to an article making claims about what the information is.
I fervently wish things were getting better, but this report doesn't really show that.
And, even if this 9.4% was all it was cracked up to be, we're talking 10ths of a percent for a single month. That doesn't constitute a trend, nor proof that the recession is easing or is over.
If this number really makes you happy, then go out an celebrate. Buy a steak dinner and a nice bottle of wine. I'm sure all those people waiting tables and tending bar part time will really appreciate your business.

The stimulus is supposed to take two years to complete.
Sorry if you dont want good news happening on Obama's watch but it appears to be happening anyway.

Just as the CBO said in Jan 2009, the recession would end late 2009/early 2010, WITHOUT the need for government intervention (aka the non-stimulus).
