Isn't it amazing what McCain and Palin and the right-wing media have accomplished? This deep divide between Americans, this pathological fear of government and of Obama, this unprecedented support of the corporate agenda in America--all started with their campaign. McCain and his "this guy," and Palin's hatefest rallies, where she ramped up the paranoia and fear on the part of the ignorant and the racist--much like Anita Bryant (another "America's Sweetheart") used to do in her hateful rallies against gays and lesbians-- has now snowballed into a party of the seriously demented and vicious, ready to do the bidding of their neo-con handlers and hand their government over to the highest bidder. They should be ignored. They should get no media time, no coverage whatsoever. All it does is fuel the flames of their hate. Talk about an indictment of the American educational system. When half of the American people don't know that Judaism is older than Christianity, as Bill Maher pointed out, we can hardly expect them to respond rationally and intelligently to the issues.
The racist, gun toting, Democracy attacking thugs are going to HAVE to be stood up to, and the American people are going to HAVE to stand up if they dont want to see Democracy disappear.
The one thing I am optimistic about is I honestly believe that Americans, a majority of them eventually, will stand. I will stand with them and am down with the struggle indeed.

I apologize for not taking the time to read your post before I shot my mouth off, I was clearly mistaken about your sources. Furthermore, there is historical precedent to some of FDR's programs, but this "Mussolini actually repaired crumbling _____ and built ____" and "Hitler was responsible for the People's Car, and the new Autobahn, and the _____," and "FDR was responsible for Public Works, and the CCC, and ____" is not in any way making a nexus of ideology between any of the three.
Furthermore, your description of fascism falls critically short in that arena, and this is a critical shortcoming, as it helps describe what fuels fascism and what it really is: A reinforcing link between government and industry in prosecuting war while practicing anti-democratic and carefully calculated fear and propaganda campaigns to intimidate the citizenry from objecting and protesting this arrangement. Thats why propaganda and control of the media becomes critical. (Look at Bush's hushed news conference on the eve of the Iraq war for a good look at how it works in America.)
FDR did not prosecute war until war came to Pearl Harbor, furthermore, he rejected English plea's to send manpower to fight the Axis juggernaut that clearly would not have been defeated until years later were it not for U.S. intervention.
FDR never declared war on Germany, Germany declared war on the U.S., so these attempts to link socialism/fascism to progressive policy is absurd, but I apologize for including you among this group, of which you clearly are not one of.

You are few in number and even if you controlled all three branches of government you'd likely never win the will and support of more than a tiny lunatic fringe of Americans.

I am from a working class family and am very pro-labor, pro worker. My hat is off to everyone who rolls up thier sleeves and pulls thier own weight.
Thuggery and suppression of free speech through intimidation and physical violence is another matter. Any thugs who participate in a 'beat down" to stop the ability of other citizens to express thier views is a facist pig. This is no different than when Nixon called in "the hard hats" to beat up and intimidate protestors in the Vietnam era. I really don't see how you can justify these actions with a straight face. It is shameful.
I find it beyond sad....really tragic.....that people will demean the American worker by calling them thugs ....all the while excusing the rape and pillage of the American people by the greedy, destructive insurance companies. If the insurance bigwigs take the tax payer's money for million dollar bonuses then that's just peachy keen. But heaven help the workers who want health care...they're thugs.
