Is it fair to seek compensation from a person or business who injured you through their negligence?
Absolutely.
Can you prove it?
Talk to a lawyer.
Can a lawyer find other customers who ate there that day who got ill? Is it expensive to find that out? People who paid through credit cards can be traced, but would it require a court order?
The point is that this woman got in touch with the proper government agency and nothing was done about it. Makes me wonder if they are in someone's pocket.
Often, if you report something like this, they ask a series of questions to see if it were food poisoning. I would suspect, then, they would try to find out if people other than these two had the problem.
You have to remember, businesses may pay people off and cut corners and endanger the public, but ther are also members of the public who collude to get money out of a totally innocent business. People have been desperate enough to poison themselves to get money out of a business, which is maybe why the hospital did not respond.
I think this lady is honest, but in a tough position, which is why we are supposed to have laws preventing businesses from serving tainted food. If they pay off the inspector (which they must do, according to Gordon Ramsey's show) who do we turn to?
I guess the public's only recourse is, while they are still suffering and a swab can be taken to identify the parasite, the first thing ANY of us should do is go to a lawyer.
We are forced, because of all the corruption and payoffs, to be a litigious society, aren't we?
