Discuss your personal criteria for deciding on the town or city you wish to live in. Also for further discussion discuss how a town or city is a good place for you to live and if you fall under any minority status or atypical social or political status discuss how you do things. ie: you could be a white male Libertarian that hates racist/conservative/liberal towns, or you could be a white straight male atheist that hates religion. Discuss.

I research it?

Almost every city has a more conservative or more liberal area in it.

If you're talking small town in the midwest, chances are it will be more religious.

Now racism... I dont think whole cities or towns are racist. Certain people in certain towns or cities are racist. Having lived in suburbs of cities, and downtown cities, I can tell you racists come in all colors, genders, and ages.

You do research but I have found out first hand that actually seeing a town is alot better than reading about it or getting others opinions of it.

I think that the local media (TV, radio, and print) are excellent indicators of a town or city. Not all of the media must originate in the town.
How many talk radio programs do local stations carry? In the city where I live one can hear all the nutcases on radio, from Savage, Hannity, to Cunningham, besides the usual Limbaugh. At times two stations have a popular right winger, so that must be a difficult choice for the listeners.
Also, do the local commercial stations make many references to god and religion? In the city where I live even the Public Station has religious organizations as sponsors.
In the newspaper, read the letters to the editor. Count how many base their opinions on religious points. Count how many religion oriented syndicated columnists the local paper prints and how often.

The more Caucasian people the better for me. Exactly part of the reason I am leaving Georgia, if I don't I'll need to learn spanish soon.

Are you having difficulty figuring out this thread? It's not hard. There's different parts of the city that could be considered racist or small-minded, just as there are other areas that are more open-minded & liberal. I choose to live in the open-minded liberal areas.
