President Barack Obama's top car industry adviser said Wednesday he expects General Motors Co. will return to profitability and hold an initial public offering before Chrysler Group LLC.
Both companies will post operating profits at about the same time, Ron Bloom said, declining to say when that would be. But because Chrysler "carries a little more debt" on each vehicle sold, the company won't report a net profit until after GM.
Mr. Bloom said he expects GM to sell some of the government's shares in the company to the public next year.

Now that GM and Chrysler have re-emerged from Chapter 11 the [restructuring] task force is downsizing, from a high of 15 people to fewer than six. The function of the task force going forward, said Bloom, will be in monitoring GM and Chrysler to make sure the companies are meeting their commitments. Both automakers, while now privately held, will be making quarterly financial reports to the government and voluntary filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. “Transparency is important,” said Bloom.
The Volt, what does it cost, what is it's resale after 5-10 and why would I buy one vs a proven Prius?
That extra 30K over a used Honda Civic will buy a lot of gas, especially when that car is on the spread sheet for replacement batteries and maint. I see the first buyers of these as suckers unless they get some major league type tax break for many, many years.

40K, how are we going to dispose of used batteries? I also am curious when fully electric vehicles are widely available how will the energy be generated to recharge the batteries and won't that electricity generation pollute as much as gas engines?
