Is her father Frank Murkowski?

that might explain a Republican having a slight decent streak...he did.

IMO, GOP radicals have fallen right into a trap, as befits their amateur status and goonish level of mental development which is on full display in town hall meetings as ill-informed buffoons shout and act up like a bunch of racist bullies and fascists.

Obama and the DEMs crafted a health care bill which was immediately pounced on by the politics of "no" with a stack of insane lies and spin all of which will do nothing but trap them in their own words.

Obama has begun to lower the boom on these characters with his first town hall, and the press is now skewering them, pointing out the stupid lies that will be their downfall. Palin's insipid remarks are icing on the cake, the low point in the debate has now been reached when Sarah Palin, our undisputed national dunce, recently set the low water mark for debate. (G. W. Bush is now the second place dunce.) Along these lines, here's a story in today's WaPo on this matter, with a theme that people like Senator Murkowski are trying to lead the GOP out of their forest of lies and into the sunshine of honest debate. Point is that the lying mouthpieces on the extreme right fringe do not want anything to do with a rational, sensible debate, they will lose all the way around. Here's an excerpt from the WaPo piece:

- Republican strategists and their media rabble-rousers cleverly thought they could dispatch their shock troops this month and kill health reform once and for all. Instead, they're on the verge of generating what they've been desperate to avoid -- an urgent, national, rational conversation on how to make the health-care system fairer and more affordable.

WaPo author Pearlstein finishes his piece with this coup de grace to the GOP lies: "The evidence from other countries is that, with U.S. health spending running at more than $2 trillion every year, we can buy all the health care we really need and still have some left over."

Yep, her father was Frank Murkowski. And she first obtained her senate seat by appointment from her father.
Quote:
Murkowski, while a member of the state House, was appointed by her father, Governor Frank Murkowski, to his own unexpired Senate seat in December 2002, which he had vacated after being elected governor. The appointment caused a furor in the state, and eventually resulted in a referendum which stripped the governor of his power to directly appoint replacement Senators.

Palins death panel story is just another example of Palin's lack of any integrity. She makes things up as she goes along and knows that there are idiots out there who are going to believe her.
Look in the bill and see if there is ANYTHING about death panels or such like....you'll find zilch.
Too many are now trying fear tactics to stop what could be the best change for all Americans in Health Care. Ignorance breeds fear and in this health debate there is a lot of ignorant people trying to derail it.

Hey , I said a "slight" decent streak....and he did...HE tried to aid the workers of the Marianas Islands, where workers are terribly abused (abuses include forced sex and FORCED ABORTIONS).
But his fellow Republicans lead by scuzdirtbag pro-forced abortions TOM DELAY put a stop to any aid....they preferred that their frinds on the Islands made money anyway they could....the Republicans PROMOTED forced abortions....at least Murkowski was slightly above that.

Palin keeps targeting her youngest child for death.....first she wanted credit for not aborting him when she found he had Downs syndrome.....as if that would be the expected thing to do.....and now she pushes him forward as being without any discernable value to society. She really needs to take some sensitivity training.....people with Downs Syndrome can live rewarding lives, be productive and be happy. What is wrong with that woman that she so maligns her son and others with some condition or syndrome. She insults and constitutes a danger to the lives of folks living and overcoming disabilities. She paints a target on them and points at their weaknesses not their strength.

Chill, dude. I didn't dispute your assessment of him. I just pointed out that he appointed his daughter, the subject of the OP, to the seat she currently holds, and it didn't go over well with his constituents.

It's worse than that, actually. During Palin's administration, Alaska had a federal moratorium placed on some of their state-run Medicaid programs.

State programs intended to help disabled and elderly Alaskans with daily life -- taking a bath, eating dinner, getting to the bathroom -- are so poorly managed, the state cannot assure the health and well-being of the people they are supposed to serve, a new federal review found.

The situation is so bad the federal government has forbidden the state to sign up new people until the state makes necessary improvements.

No other state in the nation is under such a moratorium, according to a spokeswoman for the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

. . .

A particularly alarming finding concerns deaths of adults in the programs. In one 2 1/2 year stretch, 227 adults already getting services died while waiting for a nurse to reassess their needs. Another 27 died waiting for their initial assessment, to see if they qualified for help.

I'm glad some one is finally standing up to the fear mongering extremists.
