There are some real deep misunderstandings about who uses a UHC.
A UHC, such as in the UK, is used by EVERYONE. It is not like the Insurance led health system in America where you pick your provider and have to exclusively use them. Many are asking whether the Govt, Senate, Congress etc would "opt" in or out of a UHC if it was implemented in America. In a word....No. There is no opting in or out as every single citizen would be automatically a patient under a UHC. If the President, Congress or even Mcdonald's or Wal-Mart or "Joe the Plumber" wanted to use a private health insurance scheme they can. This does not negate their rights to use the UHC and it is up to them who they see or what Doctor, service they want to use at any given time. In the UK, EVERYONE can use the UHC and if the Prime Minister or M.P'S want to have private health....they can.
Opting in and out of health schemes is a very American thing and it is brought about by the fact that you have to opt into or out of a Insurance scheme to get health cover.
To many out there who think that the Govt would give America a UHC that they wouldn't use i can say from experience that this does not happen. Our Members of Parliament do not have to negotiate life long health plan cover as when they retire or leave politics as they have the UHC and any private health plan that they want to continue on their own Dime.

So in answer to all of those worried that Politicians will "opt" out of a UHC in America...... No they won't.
