This is a start, the voices are being heard:

Quote:
A Senate panel has decided to scrap the part of its healthcare bill that in recent days has given rise to fears of government "death panels," with one lawmaker suggesting the proposal was just too confusing.
Senate committee scraps healthcare provision that gave rise to 'death panel' claims -- latimes.com

This is just a committee's recommendation, we'll have to see how far it goes.

From the link:

""""Recently, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin speculated that Obama and other Democrats wanted to set up "death panels" to decide who gets medical services and who does not.

In reality, the provision was designed to allow Medicare to pay doctors who counsel patients about planning for end-of-life decisions. The consultations would be voluntary and would provide information about living wills, healthcare proxies, pain medication and hospice."""

WAYYYYY too hard for Repubs to understand! But they DO get that it eliminates the poorer of us who wish to have end-of-life counseling....that's only for their GOD, Thw Wealthy!

And now their political Guru and Leader, SarahSpineless, is open to any and all criticism.
She , with her bitterness, ego-centricity, stupidity, vengence and racial hatred has cast doubts on somethng I, and many others, will want someday. Everybody NEEDS it but repubs are too stupid to know that.

Todd Palin (25 years from now): Oh, I see Sarah's had stroke! Pull the plug, pull the plug! I just KNOW that's what she would want(snicker, snicker) Afterall, she never indicated what she DID want.... so I KNOW this is what she wanted(snicker, snicker)...

Though not mandatory, as some on the right have claimed, the consultations envisioned in Section 1233 aren’t quite “purely voluntary,” as Rep. Sander M. Levin (D-Mich.) asserts. To me, “purely voluntary” means “not unless the patient requests one.” Section 1233, however, lets doctors initiate the chat and gives them an incentive — money — to do so. Indeed, that’s an incentive to insist.

The Greenroom » Forum Archive » Obama ought to read section 1233 of HR 3200

Emanuel is a key advisor of Obama's health care reform as health-policy adviser at the White House's Office of Management and Budget and a member of Federal Council on Comparative Effectiveness Research.

Emanuel has also stated that doctors take the Hippocratic Oath too seriously, and stated that "Savings [in the medical industry] will require changing how doctors think about their patients" in a 2008 article written for the Journal of the American Medical Association. In a separate 1996 article for the Hastings Center Report, Emanuel spoke about rationing care away from those "who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens" to the non-disabled, adding "An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia."

Palin Firestorm Brings Fresh Scrutiny to ObamaCare "Death Panels"

How odd that with a filibuster proof 60 vote majority the Senate will not even attampt to defend the provision.

It was an easy "throw away" that will eliminate over half the opposition. It's much cheaper to do this thay try to explain something to people who don't want to hear. It doesn't alter the plan and it can always be added back at a later time.

Wishful thinking.
I don't think it eliminated any opposition and is having the effect of people wondering what else did the slick hucksters hide in the bill?

I guess so. But end of life counceling is actually a very very important part of hospice care. Obviously end of life is a very emotional subject and the whole purpose of this counceling is to determine how and where the elderly wishes to pass. there is nothing sinister about this in the slightest. its just a fact of life. humans pass away and our health care specialists will do the best to make the experience as comfortable and painless as possibile to the exact specifications of the patient. its better than not telling anybody how you want to go and they do something you dont want.

Well, since this was obviously not "hidden" and has proven to be something even the loudest opponants have supported in the past, your post makes no sense.
