You forgot the Reverend Ike (who just died last week). He used to come right out and say that salvation came through money sent to his ministry.

I remember when 60 Minutes(?) busted Robert Tilton -- they sent a crew out to the back of his ministry address and photographed a dumpster full of letters sent in to him, torn open, the checks removed but the poor letters STILL IN THE ENVELOPES. When confronted about this he explained that he USED to take the letters out of their envelopes and carry them into his prayer closet with him and pray over them, but breathing the ink gave him blood poisoning.

And the best part is it that this ministry only gives to charity a "minimum of 10 percent," of what it takes in, says the Pastor's daughter

So any C-D'ers who want to send me money, DM me. And I promise God will reward you 20-fold--at least! Really!! I mean it!!! I'm in the know because God told me!!

Charlatans of all flavors are drawn to big money in religion. Case-in-point - Al Gore.

The best thing about religious orders they are government sponsored tax shames. I read an article recently that Americans gave more than 300 billion to charity in 2005 and 40% of that went to Churches. (Almost 150 Billion).

Wonder why Joel Osteen and TD Jakes and the others are so wealthy and their church attendees are so poor?

You want to start a successful business, start a church and become a preacher, there is so much money to be bad off the masses in religion.

Believers Invest in the Gospel of Getting Rich

An interesting connection is made. God's lottery for losers: There is a link between the religion that preys on the poor and opposition to rational health care | guardian.co.uk

It is really easy to connect the two. I can understand why some people are against health care reform. What I don't understand is why poor or lower middle class people who have no insurance are against it. A lot are probably the same people who follow these prosperity preachers.

*L* I wouldn't touch that forum with a 10-ft. pole. And the first post deals with an alternative to the current stimulus plan--"God's stimulus plan"--so it seemed fitting to me.

And we also talk about taxing churches on this forum, and this certainly seems to make the case for that.

At least Dr. Gene Scott entertained us with silly hats while he was "working with the retards" as he so delicately put it at his Stanford U. alumni meeting. He actually told people to sell their houses and send in the money. If a preacher drives a nicer car than the average church goer or lives in a nicer house, don't give him any more money!
