The real reason is Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are broke. They need billions more from the government to keep going yet still own or finance half the mortgages in America. Thanks to social engineering gimickery by the likes of Frank and Dodd your tax dollars are supporting most mortgages in this country, and the government desparately wants out.

You people seem to forget a little something.......people should put down at least 10%. Where does one get that? It's not like it floats out of the air, you spend years saving it up. So I'm sorry, if you don't have the downpayment, you're not going to be buying a home, which is why there are still many people who rent. How about you give me say $20K so I can buy a home, hmm?

Another crap thread from a chronic Obama hater. You are really complaining about the administration trying to put a stop to people getting into homes that they can't afford and have no business getting loans for?

Complete idiocy, unless you are in the real estate business. Then it's just a complete lack of ethics.

It will be much healthier for our country and everyone in it to put the "dream" of owning a home to bed. As we have seen it can turn into a nightmare if not done properly. Nothing at all wrong with renting, there are actually many advantages! And home prices will stabalize when we don't have a crush of folks who shouldn't even be playing in the game.

If it weren't for serious government intervention, most people would never be able to afford a home in the first place.

So, if you're criticizing Obama for this, then you must be in favor of big government to keep home prices propped up and government programs that make it easier for the poor to buy a home.

Make up your friggin minds.

Most people don't even own homes, they just pay rent to the bank (especially when the housing market crashes).

Actually it wasn't Bush.

It got its start under Carter. accellerated under Reagan and really took off under Clinton in 1993.

You CAN'T be serious! People buying homes who had no business owning homes is the reason we are in this mess in the first place. Home ownership is nice in theory, but there are just some people who can't afford it.

Extreme Makeover’ house faces foreclosure

Harper family used home as collateral for a $450,000 loan

This Feb. 2005 picture shows the Lake City, Ga. home which was the subject of the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" television show. More than 1,800 people helped demolish the Harper family's decrepit home and replace it with this sparkling four-bedroom mini-mansion that towered over ranch and split-level homes in their Clayton County
