Reagan would be the last person I could think of to turn to for advise on well pretty much everything, especially if it involves the economy or deregulation...

There IS a doctor shortage and a nurse shortage. As ol Barn says---where in the universe do you spend most of your time?
Who the heck is ol Barn? Who are you asking this question of? What is this alleged doctor shortage? What's it got to do with Medicare? There isn't really even a nurse shortage, more like a shortage of nurses willing to work in the conditions of some hospitals, brought about by all this downsizing. What is your point about Medicare supplements? You can't get a regular insurance policy once you qualify for Medicare.

HMMMM are you really who you say you are? My parents had supplemental BC/BS. I took my mother to the doctor and gave the receptionist the info on her medicare and BC/BS. They took both and both paid part of her bills. There are about 100 different supplemental insurance companies you can buy from when you are getting Medicare.

Now if you are thinking of Medicaid, then that is something else. That is for poor people and they would only have Medicaid. My in-laws were on it.

Yes, there is a doctor and a nurse shortage. Guess you haven't been keeping up with the articles that say hospitals can't find enough to hire and most doctors and nurses want to work even in places that are not high on the list for them. Obamacare will just increase the shortage.

I have to see my doctor's assistant a lot of times when I make an appointment, rather than see my doctor. I still have the choice of saying, I'll wait a few days to see my doctor----that will be taken away from us with Obamacare.

Ol Barn is Barney Frank. I guess your insurance sucks, maybe you better shop around while you still have a change. There will be NO choice if Obamacare gets passed.

What Bill Maher fails to see is Reagan DID stop socialised medicine and kept it at bay for many years with others in Washington. Just wish we had many more like Reagan up there to fight for us now.

NO THOSE THINGS DID NOT COME TO PASS AND THE REASON IS REAGAN STOPPED IT. GET A CLUE MAHER.

What do you mean, I am really who I say I am? Who am I saying I am? (Not to be redundant, here.)

You cannot get private comprehensive insurance if you qualify for medicare. In other words, BC/BS, Aetna, etc won't sell you a standard insurance policy to cover hospitalization, major medical, etc if you qualify for medicare. ALL they will sell you is the supplemental.

When did I say my insurance sucks? Again:

RE: doctor and nurse shortage, I don't need to read articles in World Nuts Daily or wherever. I work in health care. I know of docs who can't get in to a practice, are basically unemployed. I can tell you with absolute certainty that many nurses simply "just said no" to 12 hour shifts, and all the s***work that goes with a nursing job. Your doctor may have a PA so s/he can see more patients than s/he could alone, so what?

Medicare is a disaster. It's currently operating with about $36 trillion dollars in unfunded liability. It's nothing more than a massive government operated ponzi scheme.

The people paying into medicare right now are just supporting those that are currently on medicare.

And of course you can't take it away from it's recipients. They have paid into it and are dependent on it. Their options are limited, that doesn't make it a good system.

If medicare was operated in the private sector the way it's operated right now the company executives would be headed to prison.

From your posts you say you work in the medical field. I thought you would have more info.

I said my parents had SUPPLEMENTAL insurance. Maybe you missed that part. Most people on Medicare have supplemental insurance. It has never been used as the only insurance for older people if they could help it. It has never worked as they said it would but the people who paid into it at least want to get out of it what they put into it.

The way you did not believe private insurance would cover much made it seem you had sucky insurance for yourself.

You may know of medical people who are begging for a job but around here hospitals have to offer special incentives to get doctors and nurses to work for them. They can't find enough medical people so they have to compete for them.
