Talk about oil and water.............. I just watched that Eddie Murphy movie, The Distinguished Gentleman, last night. For a comedy , it hit American politics square on. Follow the money, it will lead you to the power.
LOL I said that too. I loved that movie - they elected a dead man!
I'm hearing more and more neocons grumbling about our being in Afghanistan and Iraq now while the liberals are silent about it. Hypocrisy is alive and well in both extremist fringes. But they're so darn alike, that only stands to reason.
Obama is drawing down Iraq and ramping up Afghanistan. How is this 'getting the **** out? You dream. I always thought we should have hit Iran instead of Iraq and simply dealt with Al Queda in Afghanistan, but I dream to. Lol, if you think the new great leader we have is going to just pull all our troops out that's a BIG dream though. Can't happen, won't happen. He has to show the world that his policy for the region is going to be better than Bush's. Just skinning out would not accomplish that.
Crazy MCCain wanted to double down on Iran too - that would be twice as stupid
I've got a co worker who has been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. He said that what makes Afghanistan problematic is that the dynamics are so different from Iraq, the terrain, etc. He said for as much as the Iraqis may not have liked us there, etc, the Afghans are 10x more against us. He said the education level among the people is so low, and this has been perpetuated for generations, that these people truly do live in the dark ages, specifically in comparison to Iraq. They have no real concept of infrastructure, education, they've never seen a computer, tv, etc, much less know the word etc so you are battling a mindset, much more than Iraq, and that is part of the bigger problem. It will be harder to train civilians to secure their own land and to join in getting rid of the bad guys. He explained it much better than I am, but after listening to his experience, I'm not very confident about Afghanistan.
'getting rid of the bad guys'? Hey, this is not the Bush admin, where you could get away with overly simplistic and meaningless terminology. The 'bad guys' to the Afgans or Iraqis are any invaders in their country, and right now that is US - and who can blame them - we are running around shooting and bombing in THEIR countries. The only things we should be dropping in Afganistan and Iraq are food, medicine and dollars in an effort to recompense for the immense damage we have, as Americans, inflicted upon them.
I lost my brother in Iraq and I want all of our troops out of there but we have to finish what we started, we can't just leave those people at the mercy of terrorists.

'finish what we started'? Yeah, I guess there is more of Iraq that we can destroy. In case you're interested, there were no 'terrorists' in Iraq to speak of before we invaded, they were all too terrified of Sadaam to show thenselves.
