They promised the same things - it would cover all the uninsured, hold down costs, would not be paid for by tax increases, it would offer choice and save business and patients money.
The reality?

After five years, fiscal realities as brutal as the waves that crash along Maine's famous coastline have hit the insurance plan. The system that was supposed to save money has cost taxpayers $155 million and is still rising.
Read on. An excellent preview of obamacare on steroids. Think of the disaster - Maine only had roughly 150,000, compared to 50 million.

Last year, DirigoCare was so desperate for cash that the legislature broke its original promise of no tax hikes and proposed an infusion of funds through a beer, wine and soda tax, similar to what has been floated to pay for the Obama plan.
Too bad the doctors don't agree with them. Did you see the article where thousands of surgeries will be canceled? Millions on waiting lists? The system imploding with cost over runs and shortages of care/doctors?

Of course you saw them, you just dismissed them.
What makes you think that Maine's program is the template for a public option?
Aside from the fact that all of the problems you list currently exist in the privatized system you so desperately want to keep.
And most doctors support the public option or single-payer.
Did you read the testimonials of the Canadians and Europeans? "Of course you saw them, you just dismissed them."
It's mind-boggling how the far right is militating against their own interests. Seriously, what kind of ignorance is required to go out and campaign on behalf of insurance industries who require that you lose your house and all of your worldly goods before you can qualify for full coverage under Medicare or Medicaid? For insurance companies--spending more than one million dollars PER DAY to perpetrate lies and instigate fear on the part of America's ignorant--who would just as soon see you die as let you breathe.
"They do such a bang-up job with other "businesses" they run, don't they?"
I agree. Just look at the cash for clunkers program. It was supose to last until Nov. It lasted 4 days. They doubled the allotted money. It still didn'e last out the month.
The computer system keeps breaking sown. Dealers have no idea when they are to get thier re-imbersements.
Are these the same people who are "predicting" the data for health care?
It's just not in the best interest of billionaire insurance and pharmaceutical executives.
Nice try, though.
If you hate the government, move somewhere else.
You can insure everyone without having a public option. But we all know the PO is the path to single payer, don't we? Be honest for once.
I don't hate the government, however I know enough to realize nothing EVER turns out how they promise it will. It is ALWAYS more expensive and bogged down in bureaucratic red tape.

Since America was founded upon the principles of less government and other countries had no such mantra, one would suggest those who love government to move elsewhere.

Maine also has an awesome recycle fee for their containers.
