I guess when your problems have gone from being AWOL with a honey, to releasing emails that would make any 16 year old blush, to your wife packing up and leaving, then just plain old ethical lapses are looking pretty good.

Turns out that Mark Sanford has been getting a lot of free flights on campaign donor's, and others' private planes. His problem is that he's required by SC law to disclose any gift of "more than $25/day, or $250/year, that might not have been given if not for the recipients' official position".

First his spokesman tried the old, "well, they're really just friends, bid'ness had nothing to do with it" excuse. When the state ethics chairperson flagged him on that he said, "we thought the giver, not the recipient should make the disclosure". The ethics chair laughed that one off too, as the donors have no obligation to disclose, but the governor does. As she said, "he's putting more excuses on the lame pile".

The lame pile. Sounds like where G.W. Bush got his business training.

As another poster on here has in his signature block, "visit South Carolina and feel better about your state".
