An ex-Marine, my husband was a tough customer. Toward the end, he said to me, "You know, fighting the insurance company was worse than fighting the cancer."

What will you do when you face YOUR death panel?

Get the treatment and then work on getting them to pay. Remember it is always easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission.

I find it funny that this woman really thinks the government would just say yes or no right away. It took over a year for the VA to determine my disability level, and now my wife is still waiting six months despite being told the process has speed up.

You paperwork will get lost, your paperwork will be filled out wrong, your paperwork will be ignored, etc. Then there is always my favorite, the form you applied on is no long valid, please redo your paperwork with the current form (The problem was I filled out the paperwork in 2006, they didn't act on it until 2008, new form came out in 2007). This is also the same government that decided that since no VA doctors was able to do my knee surgery (nothing major, they just didn't have a doctor in Hawaii) instead of sending me downtown to a civilian hospital they flew me to California for three days and then flew back. This was of course after waiting 6 months to get the surgery to begin with!

You are one of the lucky ones; our area VA Hospital had a surgeon on staff with no license. There have been 5 deaths connected to him so far, and of course everyone here expects that number to rise. The medical treatment
given to our veterans is deplorable and shameful.
