Average 2001-2007.
You have better numbers, please provide them, I couldn't find them.

With insurance costs surging, that makes the need for reform ever more necessary.

You seem to be new here so you may not know that most of these fallacies have already been addressed and disproved.

1. Tort costs only represent 1.5% of the total costs. You have 98.5% to go.

2. Insurance companies can already operate across state lines. All that is required is that they comply with the state laws just like any other corporation. These are just myths propounded by the insurance companies.

3. I don't really know the impact on treatment for illegals, but are you suggesting that a mother comes to deliver a baby that she be turned away if she does not have the ability to pay?[/quote]

Re: tort reform. While the hard costs may be 1.5% of the total, the cost of looming lawsuits cause doctors to order more tests than needed to cover their rears. The threat of lawsuits also makes the cost of medical malpractice extremely expensive.

Re: state lines. Insurance companies cannot operate across state lines. They can operate within all 50 states, but that's not the same thing. And if I have my own insurance, and choose to move out of state, I can't take my insurance with me. Lifting these restrictions would allow the free market to flourish (although I'm sure you're convinced that the free market is evil).

Re: illegals. Yes, I am saying she should be turned away, not because she can't pay, but because she's breaking the law and shouldn't even be here. The fact that we do cover her costs has made milliions more flock to our country for their medical care. I'd rather pay for Americans that can't afford medical care, not criminals.

I am not debating that something MUST be done.
As I said on another thread....everyone is saying no to this *reform*. I then follow up with then what should be done?

My point in what I wrote to you was that those numbers are old, most don't have two incomes, which makes it even HARDER.

Oh, and when did he personally do that?

There is no guarantee that tort reforms will lower health care costs--but it will ensure that pharmaceuticals and health care providers don't have to worry that much about paying out if they uh, kill someone.

And as far as illegals--unless we put them on a bus and drive them to the border and make them leave, then I will not have people dying in the streets. Period.

btw, thanks for actually offering up something substantive, we might disagree but your post is at least enlightening.

I never said that there were 30 million illegals. I said that there were 30 million people that were either illegals or choose to not get health insurance. Although number of illegals IS probably close to 20 million.

And yes, he did defend me. When he put on his uniform, took up his gun, and defended this country.

Re: tort reform. Tort reform needs to include the insurance companies (that try everything to get out of paying for mistakes), limiting compensation to realistic levels (because people sue for ridiculous amounts, in many cases), and dealing with lawyers taking huge percentages of settlements (leaving the wronged party with little compensation).

And yes, I would support driving illegals to the border and dropping them off. Or just cut off free health care. Enough with the "dying in the streets" hysteria. It doesn't happen now, with "46 million without insurance", and it wouldn't happen then. In any case, life is about taking care of yourself, not expecting the government to take care of you.

I'll agree with that, but you can't get figures less than 2 years old.
My point was that the poster stated that x million of uninsured people made over $50k.

Oh.

I'm sorry, but military war games in Texas or Georgia does not constitute defending this country in my opinion.

Neither was invading Iraq.

As far as I'm concerned-the last time we really needed defending was WW2.

I totally agree. 100 Million percent. Don't just drop them off, walk them to the border and make sure they are outta here. Also, charge their home country for the cost to transport them to the border.

Without me getting too hysterical, let me just say that millions of people out there simply cannot take care of themselves for whatever reason.

Its a huge mistake to say that they are too lazy.

No, everyone is not rejecting health care reform; that is simply untrue. What should be done? As an opponent of President Obama's plan, it is incumbent upon you and other like-minded people to develop your own alternative plan.
Instead, the GOP is telling lies, just as it did under Bush 43, in order to derail any legislation that would regulate insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and others who reap obscene profits from our citizens. Medicines made here are less expensive in other countries. That hardly seems just.

Any leftists want to buy a tin foil hat to protect you from the "corporate shills" seated in the auditorium?
