Paterson Brings Up Racism for His Low Standing - City Room Blog - NYTimes.com

"Gov. David A. Paterson said on Friday that the chorus of people who believe he should not run for election next year want to keep him out of the race because he is black."

"Mr. Paterson — whose approval ratings and support even among fellow Democrats have dipped this year — also mentioned Deval L. Patrick, the Massachusetts governor and the country’s only other current black governor, and suggested that criticisms leveled against him are based on race."

Patterson might not realize it, but he was responsible for more people looking at the VP candidates during this election period. People looked at Palin and thought, "My goodness! We could end up with a Patterson!" And pulled the lever for Obama. In his own inept way, he helped Obama.

This isn't about race at all. He has saddled us with more taxes, especially the egregious MBTA payroll tax which will tax all business -- schools haven't been spared yet.

Is Obama going to go screaming RACISM when he loses the next election?

Seems strange. At the same time, I do know that it can be very easy to develop a "victim mentality" when you are part of a disfavored minority. I wouldn't get angry with people like that; I tend to feel sorry for them. (That doesn't mean I would vote for him, however.)

Patterson saddled MA voters with the MBTA tax?

How insidious!

Oy.

Will Deval Patrick have the Staten Island Ferry take the Red Sox on a victory lap around Manhattan?

We can always depend on the race card from anyone on the left. Patterson is a standard for the Democrats.

Of course Patterson being utterly incompetent and devoid of any leadership skills has nothing to do with it. If he had any of the above the circus that's been going on in the NY State Assembly would have been dealt with months ago. Patterson is an empty suit.

Agreed wholeheartedly. But for some reason, this doesn't get mentioned much in the media.

He wasn't elected governor and probably won't even survive his party's primary...with any luck for the Democrats he'll bow out gracefully, but I hope he sticks it out and gives Cuomo a run for his money.

I don't think his ego will allow him to bow out. Which means it could make for good political theatre at least.
