In theory, socialism and communism are great. In certain settings those types of societies might even work such as a small isolated community where everyone had to contribute for the group to survive and the group was small enough so that everyone could be held accountable and no one could slack without being noticed.

If we went to full blown socialism in this country it would be a disaster. We already have millions of people collecting welfare, food stamps, section 8, etc.. that could work but just simply refuse. If we went to full blown socialism the number of folks leeching off the rest of us would explode and the achievers would flee this country faster than you can say "Food Stamp".

It's simply not morally right to allow able bodied people to spend their entire life receiving welfare, food stamps, free or reduced rent and utilities while I as a white, childless male have two choices, work or starve!

Lets take all the money we spend on welfare to the lazy (still give support to those that DESERVE it like the elderly and disabled) and spend it on the school systems in the poorer areas. Spend more on prisons and law enforcement in those areas too so they are safe. Then there will be no excuses.

Let the lazy starve if they won't work.

Socialism doesn't work, even in a small group...see what happened to the early settlers...

I was watching television the other day, and Obama made a statement that I really agreed with, he said something in the lines of taxing the super rich (over $250,000 a year) more, to make so everyone, such as myself, can have health insurance. I can not see why anyone would not agree with this? I really hate the cash for clunkers program he did, but this has restored my faith in him. To make a long story short, how is socialism going to negatively affect someone poor like me? I did a little research, and found that countries that are run a socialistic government have no homeless people. Can we say the same?
It can't be that bad. Social Security helps disabled and elderly Americans. Medicare helps disabled and elderly Americans. Food Cards (EBT) helps keep needy families from starving. Unemployment Compensation helps struggling people who've lost their jobs and can't find work.
So, socialism ain't that bad. Without it, imagine crime about 100% higher than what it is now.

Would be a nice idea if it was only lazy people who were out of work.
To say that everyone who does not have a job are lazy is ridiculous. This generalisation that only lazy people don't have jobs, is a argument that falls flat on its face. Many people in the USA today are unemployed but would love to get a job and have worked hard most of their lives.
Socialism does NOT stop people from working and becoming successful, there are many, many, many highly successful people from Socialist Countries eg Sir Richard Branson, Sir Elton John etc etc.
Why do so many Americans fall for the propogands given to them everyday by the biased media...Amazing.

You've just illustrated EXACTLY why I oppose public healthcare. Losers like you will screw their lives up, then scream poverty, and I'm supposed to support your healthcare. OK - I'll do it, but only if I can deny your new liver when it quits because of the drinking. Deal?
Why can't you make your point without personally attacking me? You don't know me at all.

This economy requires a LOT of jobs to be created before we can employ just the people that want to work. There just are not that many jobs that require people because of the displacement by robots and the flight to China. Even if we retrain the unemployed what do we retrain them to do?

Build a wall around the US? Just a thought, but we could exchange "unemployment compensation" to all of those who can't find work to erect a real barrier along our northern and southern borders. Think of it like a "public works" program if that makes it more appealing.

Sure- That is why the great inventions of our time all occurred in socialist countries: the telephone, the computer, automobiles, electric power, nuclear power ect.................

Socialism saps innovation; America has been the engine of discovery and innovation due to our system that rewards, not punishes, hard work and innovation.
