Tens of thousands of workers have already used up their benefits, and the numbers are expected to soar in the months to come, reaching half a million by the end of September and 1.5 million by the end of the year, according to new projections by the National Employment Law Project, a private research group.
Unemployment insurance is now a lifeline for nine million Americans, with payments averaging just over $300 per week, varying by state and work history. While many recipients find new jobs before exhausting their benefits, large numbers in the current recession have been unable to find work for a year or more.
buckle your seat belt. there never was a stimulus just a giant bailout.
those jobs are gone. not coming back.
welcome to mcdonalds may i take your order please.
Nah, you just resubmit, then they send you a check, back pay included for all the weeks they missed after it ran out, and a letter of apology for making you wait for the money. A friend of mine has done this twice now, he collected unemployment longer than he worked ( he was self employed before the job)

Sadly, we have white collar workers w/ college degrees willing to work at McD's here in the Charlotte region, but there simply are no openings.
Our unemployment is around 12+ officially, and much higher unofficially. We had thousands of contract workers that didn't qualify for unemployment - so they are not counted in the government's official figures.
I don't know what folks will do. Many of my friends and neighbors have given up looking for jobs locally - and are trying to find jobs in other states.
I am very concerned what folks will do. In our region, the jobs are gone. The factories don't even exist anymore. The banking jobs dried up b/c of bank mergers. I frankly am very surprised that more people have not left the area and still think they will eventually replace their jobs here.
I am very very worried about what people are going to do when the ESC checks stop. Our state fund has already gone bankrupt months ago.

When enough people run out of unemployment and stop looking for work, and are taken off the unemployment rolls, the 0bama administration, and the stenographers in the mainstream media will be ecstatically pointing to the lower unemployment numbers as proof of what a great job he is doing.
Not to worry! Obama and the Government have it under control. That's why we voted for him!
"I never thought this day would happen. I won’t have to work on puttin’ gas in my car. I won’t have to work at payin’ my mortgage.
You know. If I help him [Obama], he’s gonna help me!"
In the campaign, Mr. Obama vowed to create one million jobs, and after winning election he put forth a plan to create up to three million. The report now puts the figure at roughly 3.7 million, the midpoint of an estimated range of 3.3 million to 4.1 million jobs by the end of next year. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/11/us...s/11radio.html
