That is far different from going in front of the American people and telling lies/scareing people with a color-code chart based on contrived "chatter"..Again, we now know those were lies.
right NOW we know they are lies.

We were attacked by foreign terrorists once on our homeland and it became a political tool to manipulate the population.

Since we now know there were lies about future attacks we live and Learn. I am not about to hand any more power to the president in the name of "security".
This is plain stupid and it is all about the Executive office gaining more and more control.

Where is it stated that the power is broad? Can you even detail what the authority is? If a private network controls systems that are critical to our national security, why not give those responsible for our national security access in those situations? Would you rather the Pres. have to wait for verizon while North Korea turns the lights in D.C. or NYC out? I know some things are just too big for some to understand.

You did not know they were fabricated at the time. Not many did.
Its called living and learning.

Anyway.. we were attacked by terrorists and terrorism will always be a threat. I will not be manipulated by the President, however, so they may gain more control.

there is no reason to have a law that allows the President complete control over our internet.

Go ahead, pin point THE origin of this concept... and prove it.

It does NOT matter the origin of the bill. What does matter is

WHERE IT ENDS ! ! !

Yes, you learn but that doesn't mean be stupid. Handing the president the ability to respond to an attack is completely different. A cyber infrastrusture attack could cripple a major city. We saw that with the blackouts in NYC. I'd rather have the president have the ability to respond than wait for verizon to come somewhere in the 8a-4p window.

What I don't like about this is:

"............permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency".

Vague at best and scary too. And since the DHS has received a "F" on its cyber-security report card in the past and doesn't seem to be up to speed in any improvements in that area yet, I don't think that the government needs to be telling the private sector what to do.

Also, since there is no acting Cyber Security head right now and some of the past people who Obama has considered are of the anti-privacy mindset, it makes me worry even more.

It is all about the control.
what do you suggest in the case of an emergency?

and it's the pres not DHS... kind of like a war decision...instant, emergency.

If you do not think there is defense for this already you are wrong.

I am not willing to hand power over with the threat of a blackout or hacker disrupting some Government computer systems. Crippling a city... you are buying into the paranoia.. New Yorkers handled the blackout just fine and I think we can all handle living without computers for a few days if need be.

There in lies the paranoia created by our own Government with the sole purpose of usurping and centralizing power over the private citizens.

Funny how all of a sudden the civil liberties groups are getting shunned by the obamatrons now that the great leader is in office. A couple years ago the civil liberties groups were the heroes to the bush haters now Obamatrons.

Lets try being leaders instead of following them because its obvious the current leaders are useless.
