Obese people are the biological success stories, as told by the past history of famine and want.
If / when the food supply is interrupted, the obese will survive.
The slim, lean folks will die off.
Pity.

Good point, they're kind of like animals preparing to hibernate. On the downside, fat people need more water than slim people. If there is ever a shortage of clean drinking water then the fat people will be the first to go.

The hierarchy of threat:
Climate - exposure to the elements can kill the quickest
Suffocation - 3 to 5 minutes
Thirst - 2 to 4 days
Hunger - depends on body fat, energy demand, etc.

Wrong. Fat people can't run. They're difficult to hide. They'll be sitting ducks.
