HELENA, Mont. — U.S. Sen. Max Baucus of Montana says a health care overhaul will happen
this year even if Republicans back out of bipartisan talks under growing public pressure and
that the death of Sen. Edward Kennedy could help hold together a compromise deal.

Baucus is leading a panel of two other Democrats and three Republicans that is being watched
closely by everyone from the White House and beyond. Chances of a bipartisan breakthrough
appear to be diminishing in the face of an effective public mobilization by opponents during
the August congressional recess.

Baucus: Health Care Reform Will Happen This Year With Or Without GOP

get pack power will be a long shot for the GOP at best. they will probably gain some seats but to gain a majority will be a stretch.

Well, this is the last big raw raw for Max anyhow ... folks at home are going to retire him in 2010.

And all of this talk of Democrats and Republicans is somewhat amusing, as people are fleeing both parties in droves these days.

I wonder what the Independent vote has in store for 2012 ..

If it can happen with or without them, why hasn't it happen already then?.......because it's not just about them, it's about some of the Democrats not wanting it either.

well the GOP needs to win 78 House seats plus 1 to regain the majority. Yes 78! The most pathetic thing is how the GOP is just going to standby and not participate on such leglisation that is such a vital issue to all Americans and they wonder why they lost in 2006 & 2008.
