I find it fascinating how quickly people forget Regan and Bush addressing school children. I even recall watching Bush's speech in 1991, and no, I wasn't suddenly brainwashed into voting Republican or signing on to his agenda. In fact, I recall it being a rather innocuous speech about education, that even I, who at the time was a silly kid whose political views could simply be described as 'uninformed teenage fringe left inspired by listening to too many Dead Kennedy's records', couldn't really muster up a whole lot of outrage over. I can't think of any reason why Obama's speech would not be the same.

There is really nothing to see here.

Not going to read 400+ posts on this...

All I know is Conservatives ought to be ashamed of themselves, PERIOD!!!

I mean WTF??? You nut-jobs honestly think that this is Obama's master plan? To make our children into good little Commies and have them run home and convert Mommy and Daddy into agreeing with Obamas "Socialist" agenda?

Seriously, you people are f'ed in the head. No two ways about it...

FACT: Bush 1 did the EXACT same thing when he was President, but I'm guessing you freaks:

1) Didnt' know that

and

2) Didn't **** and moan about it at that time if you did

(You know? On second thought, maybe we should cancel the visit by Officer Franklin too, because he's obviously there to tell our kids all the benefits of a police state...... Let's bar the local volunteer firefighter from talking to our kids too, because he obviously has some leftist social agenda too that he might attempt to poison our kids' minds with..... I mean "volunteer"??? C'MON!!!! )

Honestly, you don't have to agree with 99.8% of what Obama stands for, but to rally against, and get in an uproar over this is as pathetic and petty as I've EVER seen in this country.

Beat me to it..... I can't tell whether they've forgotten out of convenience, or their minds have simply been vacated...

Hi, Sanrene --

No, it wasn't about the Challenger accident, nor was Bush's about 9/11 -- I'm sorry if in my previous post I didn't communicate clearly enough that I was referring to the elder Bush, not the younger.

No, the two speeches to which I refer were far more benign -- Reagan spoke to schoolchildren in a live broadcast about the importance of education, and Bush, Sr. did the same. Both presidents' speeches were broadcast to the nation (Regan's was shown live and then rebroadcast three times during the week). I linked you to Reagan's transcript from the archives of his library in Texas and to Bush's transcript from his presidential library.

I hope this helps clarify my earlier post.

School Districts in Six States to Refrain from Showing Presidential Address Next Week - Political Punch

Quote:
The White House now admits that one of the lessons plans surrounding the speech was written clumsily, subjecting it to misinterpretation, and had to be re-written.

What seems to be drawing the most ire are optional preparatory materials from the Department of Education asking students to "Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president."

It's so embarrassing that these school districts are so full of stupid people.

"What seems to be drawing the most ire are optional preparatory materials from the Department of Education asking students to "Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president."

Something like that gets kids thinking about how to help in their own neighborhoods, about civic-mindedness generally. I dont know how this isnt obvious.

You'd rather have a president waste time and show how disconnected he is with something like this?

Bush Urges Youngsters to Help Friends on Drugs - The New York Times
In a 15-minute nationally televised plea from the White House library, the President presented the latest round of an anti-drug campaign that began a week ago with another nationally broadcast message announcing a $7.9 billion package.

But less than a mile from the White House, a 7-year-old boy who heard the President shook his head and suggested that the President's argument was too simple.

The anti-Obama people become more ridiculous and bizarre. Their behavior is irrational and totally unreasonable. Good subjects for a study in mass hysteria and paranoia.
Maybe on the day that this "master commie plan" speech is delivered the parents will hide with their children under their beds.
How do these parents "shelter" their children from the world around them?
