Wow, that's got to be 100,000 to 200,000 dollars in losses....

If this ranchers needs help with controlling predators I'll volunteer to go to his ranch, work for room and board only and take care of this problem.

This ranch is quite possibly several thousand acres in size.
Then the ranchers should be able to afford insurance.

Are they?

If so that is immaterial to this discussion...the fedgov. I believe brought the wolves in...obviously the fedgov. should be liable for damages caused.

Don't you agree?

I live in suburban NH and have seen coyotes running around. People have lost livestock, mostly chickens, and domestic pets to the critters. A friend lost a dozen chickens to a weasel that managed to get into a cage with the birds. Weasels deserve their reputation as crazed killers. I would hunt the critters but it is illegal to shoot a firearm anywhere in town but the swamps or the local range. There are simply too many houses too close together.

When I was a kid I would hunt rats at the local dump. They were an unending supply of targets. If I didn't hunt them they invaded the houses and made quite a mess. I hunted them at the dump and our pride of semi feral cats hunted then around the house. The cats even kept the squirrels out of the attic.

A year on the river boats in ‘Nam cured me of hunting. I suppose I could resume pest control if I was having a problem feeding unwanted guests like coyotes and wolves. Around here I would be more concerned with bears because they are bigger and smarter the coyotes.

I think this guy is already too deep into federal subsidies. What other private business is automatically subsidized like that? I would still be in business if the feddies subsidized alternate energy consulting that generously. Maybe we don’t really need to raise cattle and sheep in the Montana wilderness. Cattle seem to do really well in New England or the mid west.

Saw in the Spokane newspaper today that the owner of the hysteria promoting anti-wolf website mentioned here several times (SaveElk.com) has been arrested for poaching trophy elk out of season. Ironic, that on his website he says:

If you can actually go through this site and claim we are just a bunch of country bumpkins or hunters who merely want to keep the Elk and Deer around for our hunting pleasure, then we truly feel sorry for you as you obviously have no feelings for the suffering of these poor animals, our mountain ungulate, pets and livestock

What a yahoo.
Maybe he should rename his website, SaveAllTheElkForMe.com

Africa. Hyeana's will kill lion cubs every chance they get. Lions will kill their own young if a new male takes over the pride.
It is a myth that wild animals only kill for food and only as much as they need.
Orca's kill for sport often torturing their prey. That would include killing their cousins the dolphins.
Humans do all of the above, should we cull humans?
