The information to be captured includes comments, tag lines, emails, audio, and video.

Publicly-accessible sites may include, but are not limited to social networking sites. The contractor shall provide a user-friendly way of organizing and searching captured information.

While the solicitation specifies a 12-month contract, it allows for seven one-year extensions. It specifies no dollar cap. Other troubling issues include: extremely broad secrecy terms preventing the vendor from disclosing to the public or the media what information is being captured and archived (page 7, “Restriction Against Disclosure”) wholesale capturing of comments by non-White House staff on publicly accessible sites capturing of content of any type (text, graphics, audio, or video) capturing of comments by both Obama critics and supporters, with no restriction as to how the White House would use the information.

Doesn't look like there is any shortage of IT companies willing to do the White House's dirty work.

It would be nice to think that Americans themselves wouldn't want to be spied on themselves so none of them would answer an ad like that-- but I suppose that would be too much to hope for.

Besides, why are they advertising for a position like that --unless they want to create an army of neighborhood snitches or something--because all the major search engines ALREADY have copies of all of our searches. Why don't they just get what they are looking for from them?

Bush's plan was to spy on international exchanges, this plan is to spy on YOU!

What they are collecting goes far beyond Internet searches. They will be gathering all sorts of information posted in social network sites and other forums like this one that are open to the public. The part that concerns me the most is the provision that this information be categorized and placed into a user friendly form. For what purpose?

Most likely, in my mind, would be a database for the government to know who to target when it comes to IRS audits. If you speak out against the POTUS, you just might be in for an unfriendly visit. Who needs "censorship" if you can silence your critics by making them afraid to speak out?

And just imagine the chilling effect of that (see Joe the Plumber).

Another viewpoint:

At that time, legal experts and investigators insisted that everything produced by an administration for anything remotely concerning official business had to be archived within the EOP.
A more careful reading of this RFP shows that to be the project. The contract directs the contractor to archive the “information posted on publicly-accessible web sites where the EOP maintains a presence“, including social networking sites like MySpace, Twitter, and so on. It doesn’t call for everything on those networks to be archived, but only “information posted by non-EOP persons on publicly-accessible web sites where the EOP maintains a presence[,] both comments posted on pages created by EOP and messages sent to EOP accounts on those web sites.” In other words, the archiving will include interaction on EOP websites and pages, but not anything else.

I never thought of changing the station on TV. I just put mine on Fox news. I buy all of my groceries with cash so that they can't find out what I eat and have it adulterated. And I wear a mask and cover my tag when pumping gas.

Oh, really? We're looney? Thank you, but I'm not willing to so easily let this White House get away with this kind of spying on citizens. But apparently you are fine with it, huh?

Especially, in light of the shady characters that are "advising" the President, whose intentions are a threat to our Republic; i.e., Van Jones, Mark Lloyd, Cass Sunstein, Holdren and others.

There is nothing about this administration that is not suspect. These people are up to something, and it isn't good. Americans must waste no time. These people are sinister.
