The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus New York Representative Kemal Gokeri called on the Greek Cypriot Administration to contribute to the confidence building measures aimed at finding a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem under the United Nations auspices.
Mr Gokeri has sent a letter to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in reply to a letter by the Greek Cypriot Administration’s UN Permanent Representative Andreas Mavroyannis.
In his letter which was circulated as a document within the UN General Assembly, the TRNC Washington Representative Kemal Gokeri stated that flights within the sovereign airspace of the TRNC have been carried out with the knowledge and consent of the state authorities.
Describing the allegations as baseless, Mr Gokeri stressed that the Greek Cypriot Administration has no right of say over the flights within the national airspace of the TRNC.
In his own letter to the UN, the Greek Cypriot Permanent Representative to the UN Andreas Mavroyannis claimed that the national airspace and the international aviation principles had been violated by the Turkish airplanes.
