Ok maybe I am expecting too much, but it would seem to me the goverment is totally blind of what is important to most of America.

I just dont get it, they just want to raise taxes without even thinking about cutting the pork out of the budget. Most people are bearly hanging on and I am not asking the goverment for any help other than look at themselves and what they have done to create thses budgets, before they look at the people to bale them out of another budget shortfall because they dont know how to manage things.

I don't know, maybe I am way off base on this one.

we could give the government 20 trillion dollars to buy a clue and the group of people we have in there would tax and spend

Perhaps you just haven't noticed...the government doesn't care about the people, just themselves (both parties). They only want to increase their own power and subjugate the people that they are supposed to represent.

There's also the possibility that some or maybe even most of your legislators realize that their job isn't to go veggie and simply do what a bunch of people back home who don't actually know anything at all about complex national issues and problems think should be done. Legislators might realize that the job of representing constituent interests often involves digging and delving into the minutiae of such issues and problems in an effort understand more about them than the average man-in-the-street does, then casting votes that are based on that expanded information.

That's so weird! I could have swore they are elected by the people for the people. To serve their constituents, not their personal interest.

There you go. There's no faceless inhuman entity called "the government". The government is made up of specific individuals, and with the rare exception, they are all rich.

None of the people making the rules and deciding how the money is to be spent has money issues himself or herself. They don't know what it's like to have to choose between food and electricity.

Some years ago one of the newspapers here in Jersey did an experiment where they had a couple of the state politicians go to a supermarket and shop for a month within the food stamp allotment. None of them could do it--they all had to put stuff back.

I think it would be a start that while Congress is in session, they have to reside in DC in dormitory-style housing and eat on the food stamp allotment, use public transportation, and get paid at minimum wage.
