Well, I'm from Texas and I am disgusted by the uproar that Obama's speech has caused. It is making us all look like idiots and rightwing nutzoids. Tell me why you REALLY don't want your kid to her the President speak. And don't tell me he's indoctrinating them. That's bu**s**t.
And did you see the STUPID, PITIFUL rally that some ignorant soul had regarding secession?? PLEASE-- those of us in Texas who deal in reality, need to speak up.
We can't let Texas become the next Arizona or Montana, known primarily for their own nut jobs.
The reality is that it's NOT about the speech (although an hour on the first day of school? Really?). It IS about the worksheet that was going to accompany the speech. It's all about the president, not the office of president or the country. Obama needs to realize that it's not all about him. And it's not about race.....really.
When I initially read about the letter Obama wanted kids to write to him I thought
"hey..the President serves the people, not the other way around".
He should have asked for a letter asking them what he could do to help them in the area of education.
And it definitely got out of hand but was it really by a few extremists ? Does a small group of extremists have that much power that the WH changed the speech and activities package ?
I honestly think if this were done when Bush was President he would have just moved forward and not kow-towed to any group.
