Please spare intelligent people idiotic responses to this thread with predictable rhetoric and nonsense about Obama. It is a long, but interesting and informative article that speaks volumes about what is transpiring in our nation.

The Campaign for America's Future

Now, the guessing game is over. We know beyond doubt that the Teabag movement was created out of whole cloth by astroturf groups like Dick Armey's FreedomWorks and Tim Phillips' Americans for Prosperity, with massive media help from FOX News. We see the Birther fracas -- the kind of urban myth-making that should have never made it out of the pages of the National Enquirer -- being openly ratified by Congressional Republicans. We've seen Armey's own professionally-produced field manual that carefully instructs conservative goon squads in the fine art of disrupting the democratic governing process -- and the film of public officials being terrorized and threatened to the point where some of them required armed escorts to leave the building. We've seen Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner applauding and promoting a video of the disruptions and looking forward to "a long, hot August for Democrats in Congress."

This is the sign we were waiting for -- the one that tells us that yes, kids: we are there now. America's conservative elites have openly thrown in with the country's legions of discontented far right thugs. They have explicitly deputized them and empowered them to act as their enforcement arm on America's streets, sanctioning the physical harassment and intimidation of workers, liberals, and public officials who won't do their political or economic bidding.

This is the catalyzing moment at which honest-to-Hitler fascism begins. It's also our very last chance to stop it.

I understand that Armey recently was asked to leave the law firm that he's been a part of for some time, and that the reason was his unsavory involvement in all the activities mentioned in the OP's link.

Here's the Bloomberg story on Armey's departure. The law firm not only disavowed having anything to do with Armey's fascist group "Freedom Works" or the anti-health care movement, the firm made it clear that they support health care reform.

Obviously, Armey is a whack job who knows no limits or boundaries; people like him must be stopped.

If you substituted Teabag for Acorn, you would have a more Truthful article. Left wing can never see what's really going on.

you should try reading your own articles more carefully. he was not 'asked' to leave; he left of his own accord to work full time opposing BamCare.

maybe he was asked to leave by the side opposing healthcare options. They obviously needed his brand of lunacy.

I was a republican for 35 years. A moderate republican. In the last 4 years, the republicans who control the party have made it clear that they don't want me. They call moderate republicans RINOs(Republicans In Name Only) and have no use for bipartisanship, moderation or reasoned debate. Two years ago I changed my voter registration to Independant.

I see the elephant in the room that no republican wants to talk about. That is that they want to bring down the government at all costs and the Obama administration in particular.

You think the ongoing debate is about health care reform? Don't kid yourself. The vocal republicans in charge now don't give a whistler's damn about heath care reform one way or the other. It's just the most convenient issue to attack the government and the current administration. If it wasn't health care it would be something else. They smell blood in the water over the issue and will use every dirty trick in the book to defeat it. Just to destroy the Obama administration.

How far the political process has sunk is evident in the fact that Obama is under attack by Republican fundamentalists for wanting to give a speech to school children. How warped is that?

Well the way I see it is that apathetic Americans have finally woken up and exercising their right to protest peacefully. For the last 40 years this country has been floating along going with the status quo. We now have a President that is a bit more left than was thought and the right and even some moderates now feel strongly enough to make their opinions known to the public.

Don't bash them or put them down. This IS America and they have every right to do what they are doing. I, for one, am glad to see people starting to care about politics and this country's administration. While I don't agree with most of their points, I respect their right to protest.

What I do not like are the paid gangs of people from both sides trying to derail the point of the protests.

I have posted Dr. Britt's 14 points of Fascism many times and NOBODY has ever disputed that it fit the Cheney/Bush administration to a "T".

Now, with Obama in office I hardly thought the proponents(Republicans) would just let it die away quietly........
