I guess what I am most upset about is how Democrats get so derailed from accomplishing anything because we are so afraid of doing anything without the approval of Republicans (god forbid we grow a set). Republicans have had control for so long and have not managed to do one thing, not one, for the middle class. Is there anyone else that feels as disgusted as I do?
Yes. I feel like I've been bashing my head against a wall for months now.

No, you are not alone.

I'm discouraged by alot of what I am seeing from the right, but just as discouraged as I was by what I've seen from the left over the last 8-10 years - equating people who remain unconvinced about global warming with holocaust deniers; questioning if Sarah Plain birthed her own child (Liberal 'birthers'); constant cries of "Racist!!,Fascist!!"; "Bushhitler"; "General Betrayus"; Theocracy!!....and on and on.

The reality is no one is getting anything accomplished in the curent political enviroment. Except the corporate interests - and that includes businesses and other big institutions like unions - who pay via "campaign contributions" (AKA - Bribes) to ensure their agenda is adressed.

I'm starting to wonder if we are even capable of fixing real problems in this country - with either sides solutions.

You are not alone . We need less rhetoric and more action in this country.

We all need to stop the blame game or we will get nowhere. And the Democrats definitely need to grow some "cayones".

And the Republicans need to get over their "divide and conquer" mentality!

I don't think that the Liberals or the Conservatives to any great extent, are doing anything wrong here.

There are reasons why you all feel as if you are beating your heads against the wall ...

Quote:
The term "plutocracy" is formally defined as government by the wealthy, and is also sometimes used to refer to a wealthy class that controls a government, often from behind the scenes. More generally, a plutocracy is any form of government in which the wealthy exercise the preponderance of political power, whether directly or indirectly.
Plutocracy defined

Quote:
.. The second usage of plutocracy is a pejorative reference to a disproportionate influence the wealthy are said to have on political process in contemporary society: for example Kevin Phillips, author and political strategist to U.S. President Richard Nixon, argues that the United States is a plutocracy in which there is a "fusion of money and government." ...

The trick here, or rather the possible fix here would be to rid D.C. of special interests ... corporate lobby efforts ... and to forever restrict campaign contributions from corporations ...

We may not see a fix for anything until "all" of corporate America, and it's money, is removed from D.C. entirely.

This isn't just a left or a right problem. This belongs to all of us ... The only way we can be rid of our current Plutocracy is for all sides to join together and collectively fight the common foe that the American Plutocrasy represents.

The politics of corporate America is what's destroying us ... our political system of government is in shambles because of it and it has us at each others throats as a result.

Identifying the problem is the first step ... America needs her freedom and it's up to all of us, Liberals and Conservatives alike, to see that she gets it.

HOW do we even begin to get this done? I feel like our representatives on the hill are doing the same thing we're doing here on c-d. If the long, drawn-out threads that go 'round and 'round and 'round bashing & ridiculing one another here are any indication of what they are doing in DC, well, no wonder we are going nowhere fast.

It SEEMS like a no-brainer to those on both sides who are not extremists or fanatics - WORK together and enough with the rhetoric - but we somehow just can't do it.

2010 is very quickly approaching, and if those of us that still have our wits about us would care to study up on who in their districts are going to run, we might begin to effect a change beginning right now.

I don't care if you are a Democrat, Republican or Independent ... getting folks into the Congress that can thwart such a Plutocracy is the bottom line.

It may take 2 or 3 or maybe even 4 terms before we realize the full effect, but we can do this thing, and if Americans are who I think they are, we'll do it very well.

We may lose a buttload of incumbents, but it would be a small price to pay if we are to see our nation standing well on solid ground.

First and foremost, we are Americans first, and Republican, Democrat, Independent second ... if we go into this with our eyes wide open, and select those who would have guts enough to write the legislation, we might just come out of this with our national pride fully in tact.

We're America, and it's about time that both D.C. and the corporate political machine knew it.

We are supposedly a majority rule talent ... and if I'm right about this, and most people in this country are sensible, like I believe they are ... then even the ding-bats and wing-nuts won't be able to keep up.

Personally I am over the whole Democrat/Republican way of life. It's their way or no way. No independent has a shot because of the money both parties have. And the people seem bent on keeping both parties around. Just look how they both have messed up this country. From the presidents to the congress to state and local officials. They are the ones polarizing us by both strictly adhering to the same policies and forcing people to choose. We all have a lot more in common than many of us think.

We want to earn a living and take care of our families.
We want quality healthcare that won't bankrupt us if we get sick.
We want peace. And we want to be safe from terrorism.
We want the oil companies and speculators to stop scr*wing us over when it comes to fuel prices.
We want honest people in office who work for us and are not in the pockets of the big corporations.
We want to be able to live our lives without too much government interference.
And that's just the start.

Just stop and look at it. Is there really a difference between the two parties? They have their own agendas and I just don't see where we average Americans fit into their pork life. They don't worry about health insurance. They get a pension for the rest of their lives if they in congress. They go on TV and lie about each other. And we buy into it.

Ultimately we all want the same thing. I remember a time when there were clear difference between the parties. For instance to me Barry Goldwater was what a true Republican was. And let's say John Kennedy was what a true Democrat was. There were clear differences but not this media fed hostility that exists today. And the sad part of it is voters buy the garbage they see and don't bother to look for the truth. Maybe because there is no truth out there now. Looking at the job that both congress and past presidents have done for so many years may be proof that they have either no clue as to what they should be doing or they just want to line their own pockets and force their own agenda on all of us.

Hopefully the generations that come after us will change things. I don't believe I will see it in my lifetime. But I have hope for the future. That is if there is any country left.

You left out truthers.

BO is the most polarizing president in our nation's history, has no issues what so ever with ignoring the Constitution and has a history of perverting the educational system for his own political purposes (see Annenberg Challenge Project).

So when the lesson plan being sent to teachers includes the question "What can I do to help the president?" he has stepped over the line.

If the question is so contentious and over-the-line, teachers are free to disregard it and not use it. In fact, teachers were free to ignore the whole thing. But reasonable people don't see the asking kids what they can do to help the president as over-the-line. Corny maybe, but not over-the-line.
