Yes I watched it live and taped it for my sons. If they didn't get to see it at school they can watch it tonight. I thought it was a nice speech with a good message for students.

Most inspiring, down to earth speech kids have EVER heard from a president. Absolutely wonderful.

I watched with my conservative in-laws and my indi husband and we all agreed it was great, and hope that it will inspire even just a small percentage of the kids who watched.

Yes, I watched it, made a point to make sure I was available work wise to have the time to see it. Disclaimer: I am an independent with a lean (sometimes a strong one) to the right and consider myself some what of a conservative and traditionalist. I was a bit leery of his pending speech to the kids as I do not have the most faith in the guy, but I also realize that he, as with any president, is just a figure head there to have the citizens focus on while congress does what they want with no consiqueses...but that is another thread all together.
As for the speech, I think it was good. I think it is important for kids to get a good pep talk once in a while about how important it is for them to get a good education. I tell my kids the same every so often. Even if you don't like the guy (which I don't) he is the president and holds a position in the world that has a level of respect that makes people listen when they speak and take more credence to what he says than say a teacher.
You also have to realize that he was speaking to all kids, some of which have no positive influence in their lives. Some that have to live in crime ridden communities where survival means joining a gang with all it's influences. Hearing a "stay in school", "you control your destiny", "you are important and matter" speech at the beginning of a school year can help a lot of kids out there who don't hear that from the adults around them in their lives. For those kids that do have strong, supportive adults in their lives, it is good to hear it again from someone else who is in a position of respect say the same so they know it is not just Mom or Dad being bias.
Positive reinforcement from any source is not a bad thing for the kids of this country.
