Exit Polls - Election Results 2008 - The New York Times

Notice, at incomes starting 50K/year and up to 200K/year, the voting is about even, about 50% vote for the Democrat and 50% for the Republican.

But notice that once the income exceeds 200K/year, the clear winner was the Democratic party (52% DEM vs. 46 REP).

I wish they broke down the income levels further. I believe we'd find that the mega wealthy, like George Soros, Bill Gates, Google CEO's, etc.. all vote for the Democrats.

The Democratic party is portrayed as the party of the poor and the party of those who don't have many things.

But is such perception really true?

Is it possible that the rich keep voting for the Democrats because with the government support, they can keep others from getting as rich as they are?

probably true, man of which dont pay taxes because they have their mega wealth tied up into stocks, of which they dont become liabile for taxes until they sell out.. Thats why Buffet voted Democratic, his yearly taxable income $100K...

What I also find curious, is that rich Democrats tend to give little if anything to the charity. President Obama gave about 1% of his income to charity (according to his tax return).

But once in charge of MY money (and that of all the taxpayers), suddenly he becomes the Philanthropist in Chief.

The southern evangelical take over of the Republican Party has quite a bit to do with it. Look at how the voting habits of some of the higher income areas have changed in recent years (suburban NYC, suburban Philly, Northern Virginia, suburban Denver)

I donate more than 1% of my yearly income, I would think Obama who is a millionaire could do the same.
